In a gruesome crime that has left residents of Mauaima in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh stunned. A woman has been accused of attacking her brother-in-law and mutilating his genitals. This comes after he allegedly ended a romantic relationship with her younger sister. The accused, identified as Manju, is currently on the run.
Attack During Midnight Hours
The incident took place on the night of October 16 in Malkhanpur village under Mauaima police station limits. Around 2 AM, 20-year-old Umesh Kumar was asleep in his room when Manju, his elder brother’s wife, entered with a knife and launched a frenzied attack. She stabbed him multiple times before severing his private parts.
Umesh’s screams woke his family, who rushed to his aid and found him soaked in blood. He was immediately taken to a local hospital and later referred to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj for emergency treatment.
Doctors Perform Life-Saving Surgery
Umesh underwent an emergency 1.5-hour surgery at SRN Hospital. Dr. Shirish Mishra from the Urology Department confirmed that Umesh’s life was saved but stated that full recovery may take 6 to 8 months. He remains under close medical supervision.
A Love Affair Turned Sour
Investigations uncovered that Umesh had been in a three-year relationship with Manju’s younger sister, Meena (name changed). The two had reportedly promised to marry and had even discussed it with their families. However, three months ago, Umesh abruptly called off the relationship, saying he had fallen in love with someone else.
This rejection caused emotional distress for Meena, who allegedly went into depression and expressed suicidal thoughts. Witnessing her sister’s mental breakdown, Manju grew enraged and, according to police, plotted the brutal attack.
Planned Revenge Attack
On the night of the attack, Manju waited until everyone was asleep. Armed with a kitchen knife, she entered Umesh’s room and carried out the assault. After the attack, she fled the scene.
Police initially filed a case against an unknown assailant, but during questioning, discrepancies in Manju’s statements raised suspicions. As the investigation progressed, her involvement became clearer.
Police Confirm Motive, Search On
According to ACP Vivek Kumar Yadav, “Manju attacked Umesh out of anger over his decision to break up with her younger sister. It was a planned act of revenge.” A case has been registered, and multiple police teams are conducting raids to trace the absconding accused. Reports suggest that Manju is pregnant, which may affect how the case proceeds.
According to ACP Vivek Kumar Yadav, “The investigation revealed that the sister-in-law was directly involved in the attack. She was furious over her brother-in-law’s decision to end his relationship with her younger sister.”
Family and Village in Shock
The crime has left the local community stunned, especially given that it stemmed from a domestic matter involving trust, betrayal, and family honor. The Asare family, to which both the victim and the accused belong, is reportedly traumatized.
Umesh’s condition is stable, but doctors say his physical and emotional recovery will take months.
