Police Launch Manhunt After Autopsy Reveals Varanasi Student Was Murdered, Possibly Raped

The CSR Journal Magazine

The post-mortem examination of a Master of Science student, whose body was discovered in the bathroom of her boyfriend’s rented flat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has confirmed that she was murdered by having her throat slit. The autopsy also indicated possible rape, a significant head injury, and that her legs had been restrained. Medical personnel have sent samples and slides to a forensic laboratory for further scientific analysis.

The victim, aged between 20 and 22, was reported missing after she left her residence on August 18 to attend her college. Surveillance data from her mobile phone traced her last known location to Malviya Inter College in Bachhaon, Varanasi. Search efforts intensified after her mother, accompanied by a relative, discovered a key at the home of the accused’s maternal uncle in Seekhar village, Mirzapur.

Upon arriving at the location, her mother noted a strong, unpleasant odour before finding her daughter’s body concealed in the bathroom. The circumstances surrounding the girl’s disappearance and subsequent death have raised serious concerns and prompted authorities to focus on thorough investigation efforts.

Investigation Underway for Suspect’s Arrest

In response to the incident, local police have ramped up their investigation by establishing four separate teams tasked with apprehending the alleged murderer, Vivek Choubey, who is currently evading capture. Police actions have included executing raids at eight distinct locations across Varanasi, during which ten individuals have been detained for questioning.

The victim’s family claims that Choubey had been extorting her for an extended period. They allege that he produced an altered photograph of her in a bridal gown and threatened to release it publicly if she pursued marriage with another individual. Notably, the victim’s family had organised her engagement with another partner, scheduled to take place on February 22 of the upcoming year.

Reportedly, Choubey expressed anger upon learning of the engagement arrangements and allegedly lured her to his residence under the guise of assisting her with preparation for the NEET exam on August 18. The police investigation has also uncovered that the surveillance camera positioned at the main entrance of the accommodation was malfunctioning, raising suspicions that it may have been intentionally disabled to eliminate evidence or obscure the identities of those implicated.
