PM Modi To Launch Semiconductor Unit And Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Corridor In Uttar Pradesh

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major infrastructure push next week as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to lay the foundation stone for north India’s first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Gautam Buddh Nagar and inaugurate key transport projects, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced.

Speaking in the Legislative Council during the Budget Session, Adityanath highlighted the state’s expanding connectivity network and said the Prime Minister’s visit would mark significant milestones in Uttar Pradesh’s push towards becoming a high technology and logistics hub.

Semiconductor Unit To Boost High Technology Manufacturing

According to the Chief Minister, the foundation stone of the semiconductor manufacturing unit will be laid on February 21 in Gautam Buddh Nagar. He described the project as a major step towards positioning the state as a centre for advanced manufacturing.

The semiconductor facility is expected to strengthen India’s domestic electronics ecosystem and reduce dependence on imports of critical components. Officials believe the project could also attract ancillary industries and generate significant employment in the region.

Rapid Rail And Metro Projects To Transform Connectivity

On February 22, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the remaining stretches of the 82 kilometre Delhi Ghaziabad Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, linking Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi with Modipuram in Meerut. Alongside, the 23 kilometre Meerut Metro corridor with 13 stations will also be launched.

Officials said the final sections include a five kilometre stretch in Delhi between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar and a 21 kilometre segment from Meerut South to Modipuram. Key stations along the route include Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, Modinagar and Meerut South, forming the backbone of a regional rapid transit system connecting major residential and industrial zones.

Adityanath noted that travel between Delhi and Meerut, which earlier took around three hours, can now be completed in about 45 minutes via the expressway network and will become even faster with the rapid rail.

Uttar Pradesh’s Expanding Infrastructure Network

The Chief Minister also highlighted broader infrastructure growth in the state. He said Uttar Pradesh accounts for about 55 per cent of the country’s total expressway network and currently has 22 expressways in various stages of development, including seven operational routes.

Metro services are already running on six corridors across the state, and the Meerut line will add to this network. In addition, inland waterway infrastructure along the Varanasi Haldia route has been upgraded with terminals at Ramnagar, Chandauli, Mirzapur and Ghazipur.

Adityanath further pointed to rapid expansion in aviation infrastructure. When his government assumed office, only two airports were fully operational, he said. Today, the state has 16 airports, including four international ones, with a fifth international airport at Jewar nearing readiness.

He added that India’s first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul hub is also being developed at Jewar, reinforcing the state’s emergence as a major transportation and logistics centre.

The upcoming projects, officials say, are expected to significantly enhance mobility, industrial capacity and economic growth across Uttar Pradesh while strengthening its role in India’s broader development strategy.
