PM Modi Postpones Airport Departure to Assist NEET-UG Re-Examination Students

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has postponed his departure from Delhi airport on June 21 to mitigate traffic congestion for students attending the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. By delaying his exit, which was initially scheduled for shortly after 1:15 PM, the Prime Minister aimed to ensure that no students encountered difficulties while travelling to their examination centres. The examination was set to commence at 2:00 PM.

Praise for the Gesture from Officials

Union Minister Sukanta Mazumdar commended the Prime Minister’s decision, stating that for some individuals, power translates to privilege. However, he noted that for PM Modi, it signifies responsibility. This choice to wait at the airport illustrates a leadership style that prioritises citizens’ needs over personal convenience. Such actions are viewed positively, especially during crucial times like examination periods.

Approximately 22 lakh students are expected to sit for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, following the cancellation of the initial exam on May 3 due to a leak in the question paper. This vast number emphasises the importance of ensuring that travel arrangements are smooth and that students can access their designated examination centres without hassle.

Security and Logistical Measures in Place

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has put extensive security and surveillance measures in place for the examination. This includes the use of metal detectors and CCTV cameras monitored in all exam rooms. To further enhance security, jammers supplied by ECIL and BEL have also been strategically deployed across various centres. Each examination room is staffed with two invigilators, while there are at least ten officials present to ensure a disruption-free process.

A significant number of personnel has been mobilised for security purposes, comprising 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 biometric staff responsible for face authentication. Additionally, approximately 6,700 observers and more than 100 virtual observers have been assigned to monitor the proceedings, with an average of 40 to 50 security personnel present at each centre.

Logistical arrangements have prioritised security, involving the deployment of police, paramilitary forces, the Indian Air Force, and the Department of Posts. All confidential materials related to the exams have been verified at custodian banks, adding another layer of security to the process.

Candidate Welfare and Examination Conditions

In addition to security measures, the NTA has focused extensively on candidate welfare during the examination period. Arrangements have been made for providing drinking water, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and ambulance services at the examination centres. There are shaded areas and seating available for parents waiting for their children, ensuring that they are comfortable as well.

Exam rooms are equipped with wall clocks and additional rough sheets, including provisions designed specifically for left-handed candidates. Recognising the need for ample time, the NTA has allowed extra time to account for the essential entry formalities, ensuring that students have a fair and smooth examination experience.
