Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday to unveil a series of large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the city’s public transport landscape. His visit marked the inauguration of the Yellow Line of Namma Metro, the launch of three new Vande Bharat Express trains, and the laying of the foundation stone for Metro Phase-3.

Three New Vande Bharat Trains Flagged Off
Kicking off his visit at the KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, PM Modi flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains. These include the Bengaluru–Belagavi, Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune, and Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra services. While the Bengaluru train was flagged off in person, the other two were launched virtually.
With this addition, India now operates 150 Vande Bharat trains. Karnataka’s count has risen to 11, while Maharashtra, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir also expanded their high-speed rail network. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were present at the event.
Yellow Line of Namma Metro Now Operational
The Prime Minister then inaugurated the much-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro. Stretching 19 km from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, the new line includes 16 stations and connects important residential, industrial, and IT hubs across southern Bengaluru.
Built under Metro Phase-2 at a cost of around ₹7,160 crore, the line significantly improves urban mobility. PM Modi also took a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City, one of Bengaluru’s busiest tech corridors.
Foundation Stone Laid for Metro Phase-3
Taking Bengaluru’s metro development further, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the project. With a budget of ₹15,610 crore, the phase will add 44 km of elevated track and 31 stations, expanding the city’s metro network to reduce traffic congestion and improve commuter experience.
The Yellow Line will cut peak-hour travel to Electronic City by about half, from 1.5-2 hours by road to roughly 45 minutes.
