Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has conducted a review of the ongoing development and infrastructure enhancement work at SCB Medical College and Hospital, located in Cuttack. This meeting took place on August 19, 2026, at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. The focus of the review was to assess the status of key infrastructure projects aimed at bolstering medical facilities and improving patient care services within the state’s foremost healthcare establishment.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) provided updates on various projects underway at the medical college, which plays a crucial role in healthcare delivery in Odisha. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that these upgrades meet the needs of the patients and the medical staff while adhering to timelines and budgetary constraints.

According to sources, the upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s facilities, including expanded wards, advanced medical equipment, and improved emergency services. The Chief Minister’s proactive approach highlights the government’s commitment to promoting quality healthcare across the state.

Railway Multi-Tracking Projects Announced

On the same day, CM Majhi also addressed the recent approval of four railway multi-tracking projects by the Union government, reportedly beneficial for tourism, pilgrimage, and local economic activities across four states. He expressed his appreciation to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this substantial initiative.

Through a letter directed to Minister Vaishnaw, CM Majhi outlined that these projects, with a total investment of Rs 9,450 crore, represent a significant advancement in rail infrastructure for Odisha. The Chief Minister elaborated on how these projects will alleviate congestion in crucial freight and passenger corridors, thereby improving connectivity for both coastal and industrial districts in the state.

CM Majhi conveyed his optimism regarding how such infrastructural developments would facilitate the transportation of essential commodities such as coal, iron ore, cement, steel, and food grains, which are vital to Odisha’s economic landscape. Furthermore, he underscored the enhanced accessibility to many notable tourist attractions, including Bhitarkanika National Park, Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary, and various temples that hold cultural significance.

Impact on Local Communities and Economy

The Chief Minister noted that the improved connectivity will be beneficial not just for travellers but also for the local economy, stating that it would provide a fresh impetus to tourism and support local livelihoods. He reiterated that thousands of villages and lakhs of residents will directly benefit from these infrastructural advancements.

Majhi further highlighted the alignment of these projects with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, reflecting the Union Government’s continued commitment to Odisha’s growth and development. The focus on enhancing transportation networks is expected to yield positive returns for various sectors, fostering economic prosperity for local communities.

In conclusion, both the infrastructure upgrades at SCB Medical College and Hospital and the railway projects signify a cooperative effort between state and central governments to improve facilities and services aimed at benefiting the citizens of Odisha. These initiatives are poised to pave the way for a more integrated and efficient framework for healthcare and transportation in the region.
