The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the outcomes of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) for the year 2026, revealing that 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified for admission to various undergraduate courses in medicine, dentistry, AYUSH, and allied fields. This announcement was made to ensure that the subsequent counselling and admission schedules remain well-coordinated and on track.

According to the NTA, a total of nearly 20 lakh candidates took the exam, which was conducted on June 21 at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and in 14 international locations. The examination was available in 13 languages, catering to a diverse group of students. The results highlight the performance of candidates across all states and union territories.

Among the qualified candidates, women constituted more than 58 per cent of the successful candidates. This statistic underscores the increasing participation of women in the medical field, reflecting a broader trend towards inclusivity in education and professional domains.

Top Performers and Scoring Details

The NTA reported that 138 candidates achieved scores above 690 out of a possible 720 marks, with the majority of these individuals completing the NEET (UG) for the first time. Notably, Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana both attained the highest score of 715 marks, marking a significant achievement in the examination.

The announcement of results supports the NTA’s aim to maintain the timelines for counselling and admissions, thus facilitating a smooth transition for candidates into their chosen medical schools. The NTA has also made scorecards available on its official NEET website, where candidates can find their results and detailed information about top rankers, state toppers, category-wise toppers, and cut-off marks.

In line with the results, the NTA has emphasised the importance of obtaining accurate information through official channels. Candidates are urged to rely solely on established websites for guidance related to counselling and admission processes. The NTA has issued cautionary advice regarding fraudulent communications that may threaten to mislead candidates into scams related to admissions or score improvement offers.

Counselling Process for Admissions

Following the results announcement, the counselling process for candidates aiming for the All India Quota in MBBS and BDS courses will be administered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Meanwhile, counselling for state quota admissions will be overseen by the respective state authorities, which will manage their own admission processes.

The NTA’s structured approach to both the examination and subsequent activities aims to ensure that all candidates can access the necessary resources and support throughout the admission cycle. This will help streamline the path for prospective medical professionals as they move forward in their academic journeys.

The NTA’s efforts contribute significantly to maintaining the integrity and transparency of the admission process while providing essential support to candidates as they plan their future in medicine. This inclusive approach and timely announcements are vital for maintaining the overall efficiency of the educational system in India.
