Chhattisgarh University Cancels BSc Agriculture Exam Due To Alleged Paper Leak

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) in Raipur has taken the decision to cancel a second-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture examination. This follows the emergence of a question paper on WhatsApp shortly before the scheduled test, raising serious concerns regarding a potential leak. The university official confirmed the cancellation and announced that an investigation will take place.

The examination for Agricultural Entomology was set to occur on August 20 at 10 am in affiliated colleges across the state. Officials reported that the dean’s office received an email at 9 am, indicating worries about a possible leak, although this email did not include a copy of the questioned paper.

Shortly after the email was received, a document purporting to be the examination paper began circulating in various student WhatsApp groups. According to a university representative, while the circulated document did not exactly replicate the original paper, approximately 70 per cent of the questions were found to be similar.

University Responds With Cancellation and Committee Formation

In light of these developments, IGKV officially cancelled the examination, citing “administrative reasons” in their communication to affiliated institutions. The university has stated that the examination will be re-conducted during the first week of September. To further investigate the incident, a four-member committee has been established to look into the circumstances surrounding the leak.

University officials mentioned that further measures will be determined after the committee presents its findings. Students participating in the examination have been encouraged to stay updated through official university communications and maintain contact with their respective colleges regarding any changes to the exam schedule.

The situation has also incited protests among students, who claim the examination paper appeared on social media platforms nearly two hours before it was due to commence. They have submitted a memorandum to the university administration, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.

Government Officials Weigh In on the Situation

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has acknowledged the situation, assuring that the state government is aware of the concerns raised and will ensure strict actions against those held accountable. He confirmed that the university administration has cancelled the examination and set up a four-member probe committee to assess the situation.

Chief Minister Sai reiterated that there would be investigations to clarify whether the question paper was indeed leaked and how the document that circulated on WhatsApp closely mirrored a large portion of the original examination paper. The university is expected to make a separate announcement regarding the revised examination date soon.

The university’s quick action reflects its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the educational process and ensuring fairness for all students involved. As investigations proceed, the administration is diligently addressing the concerns of the student body and upholding the standards expected from the institution.
