Congress MP Shashi Tharoor attended Onam celebrations organized by the Snehasandram Charitable Trust on Wednesday. In a post on X, Tharoor described inaugurating and addressing the gathering as one of the most meaningful events of his Onam visit.
Trust Supports Children With Disabilities
The Snehasandram Charitable Trust was founded by mothers of differently-abled children and operates with public support rather than government assistance. The organization serves around 200 children in Thiruvananthapuram with various disabilities and works to help them develop their talents.
Tharoor also noted that one of the children participated in the celebrations by portraying the legendary King Mahabali.

Tharoor extended his greetings to people celebrating Thiruvonam, wishing everyone happiness, love, prosperity, and peace throughout the year.
Leaders Across Political Spectrum Share Onam Greetings
Political leaders from across the spectrum also conveyed their Onam wishes. Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan called for people to rise above caste and religious differences, emphasizing the festival’s message of love, equality, and unity.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Onam as a celebration of Kerala’s cultural heritage, prosperity, inclusiveness, and togetherness.
Thiruvonam Marks the Grand Finale of Onam
Onam is a ten-day harvest festival primarily celebrated in Kerala and is associated with the annual homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali. Thiruvonam, the most important day of the festival, falls on Wednesday.
Celebrations traditionally include wearing new clothes, creating colorful floral decorations known as Pookkalam, and preparing the traditional vegetarian feast Onasadya, typically served on banana leaves.
