Noida Police have apprehended a man following allegations of assaults on women using scissors in the Sector-58 region. The accused, identified as Ankit Verma, is reported to have targeted two women on Friday evening while they were travelling on the Sector-55 road. The victims described the assailant as approaching from behind on a scooter and attacking them with a sharp object.

Both women sustained injuries below the waist due to the attacks. They promptly filed complaints with the Sector-58 police station, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. Medical examinations were conducted to assess their injuries, and a comprehensive search operation was initiated to locate the suspect.

Arrest and Investigation Process

The investigation led police to use local intelligence and electronic surveillance methods to gather information on the suspect. By analysing data and reports from the victims, authorities were able to narrow down potential locations where the assailant might be found. This coordinated effort culminated in the arrest of Verma from the Sector-5556 area on Saturday.

Verma, a resident of Pragati Vihar in Ghaziabad, has been employed as an executive at a private firm in Sector-62 since 2020. During his interrogation, law enforcement discovered that he allegedly roamed deserted roads, predominantly on his scooter, targeting isolated women and girls. The pattern of his attacks, as described by police, involved ambushing women from behind with scissors.

Following his arrest, legal proceedings have commenced, and the police are working diligently to unravel the full scope of Verma’s actions. The department has emphasised the importance of community awareness and vigilance in enhancing public safety.

Community Response and Safety Measures

The recent incidents have raised concerns among community members regarding safety on the streets, particularly during late hours. In response, local authorities are expected to increase police patrols and offer support to residents on safe travel practices. Community engagement initiatives may be considered to discuss safety protocols and raise awareness regarding the importance of reporting suspicious activities.

Police officials have reiterated that such incidents will not be tolerated and stressed the need for prompt reporting of similar situations. They encourage anyone who may have experienced similar attacks or witnessed suspicious behaviour to come forward and communicate with law enforcement.

As investigations continue, police remain committed to ensuring the well-being of residents in Noida, maintaining dialogue with the public to foster a safer environment for all. The legal proceedings against Verma are anticipated to unfold in the coming weeks, as authorities gather further evidence and testimonies related to the case.
