The CSR Journal Magazine

The new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is set to enhance travel between New Delhi and Varanasi, with its inauguration scheduled for October 31. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will jointly officiate the launch. This train will be the second Vande Bharat Sleeper Express to commence operations in India, following the introduction of the Howrah-Kamakhya route.

Route and Schedule Information

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will cover a distance of approximately 760 kilometres, completing the journey in about nine hours. The train will make several stops along the way, including Ghaziabad, Chipyana Buzurg, Aligarh, Kanpur Central, and Prayagraj. Train number 27422 will depart from New Delhi at 9:40 PM and is expected to arrive in Varanasi at 7:10 AM the following day. Conversely, train number 27421 will leave Varanasi at 8:50 PM and reach New Delhi at 6:10 AM.

Passengers are advised to verify the final arrival times and operational days with Indian Railways prior to making any reservations to ensure a smooth travel experience.

This new service is anticipated to significantly improve rail connectivity in the region, providing a more comfortable travel option for passengers travelling between these two major cities.

Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is specifically designed for overnight journeys, offering berths instead of the traditional chair cars found in standard Vande Bharat trains. The train comprises 16 air-conditioned sleeper coaches, which were developed under the Make in India initiative. In total, it offers 823 berths, distributed as 24 in first AC, 188 in second AC, and 611 in third AC.

Additional amenities include 52 vacuum toilets, sealed gangways for passenger safety, and mini pantries to enhance the travel experience. The train is also equipped with advanced safety features, such as the indigenous KAVACH train protection system, CCTV surveillance, and fire-suppression systems, ensuring a secure environment for all passengers.

As a part of the ongoing efforts to modernise Indian Railways, this new service is expected to further improve passenger comfort and connectivity across the nation. With Varanasi already served by seven pairs of Vande Bharat trains, the introduction of this sleeper service marks a significant development in the railway network of Uttar Pradesh.

Significance for Indian Railways

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is a noteworthy advancement in India’s rail infrastructure, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing travel experiences for citizens. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efforts of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Indian Railways is continually evolving to meet the demands of modern travel.

This new sleeper service aims to provide a more convenient and comfortable option for long-distance travel, aligning with the broader goals of improving connectivity and passenger satisfaction. As rail travel remains a vital mode of transportation in India, initiatives like the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express are essential for fostering economic growth and regional development.

With the launch approaching, anticipation is building among potential passengers who are looking forward to experiencing this new service. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is expected to set a new standard for overnight train journeys in India, contributing to the ongoing transformation of the railway sector.
