New import policy of Trump may affect 250 crore business of Bihar

The CSR Journal Magazine

The impact of the trump tariff enhanced by the US on Imported Products is now clearly visible on Bihar’s export business. Export of about Rs 250 crore is expected to be affected annually. The biggest shock in this can be made for Makhana, Lychee, Turmeric, Jardalu Mango, Bhagalpuri Silk, Madhubani painting and other handicraft products.

Experts say that due to increase in tariffs, these products will become expensive in the US market, due to which the demand is possible by 30 percent. Especially Makhana of Bihar, which gives 80% of the total production of the country, can bear the biggest hit. At present, about 600 tonnes of Makhana is exported from Bihar, out of which 25% goes to America. Now this business will be directly affected.

How tariff increases effect?

In recent years, Bihar has given new dimensions to the export of agricultural and art products. Turmeric has been sent to America for the first time from Bihta dry port. Apart from this, demand for Madhubani painting, Manjusha Kala, Bhagalpuri silk, litchi and mangoes also remain abroad. America is expected to export the art material of about 50 lakh to one crore rupees per year. This consumption is also likely to decrease after the tariff increases.

What Bihar Industries Association is saying

Bihar Industries Association President KPS Kesari told the media that the tariff will have an impact on exports, but it is possible to compensate for other markets. He said, “Bihar’s exports are still limited. Apart from America, the demand for agricultural products and handicrafts remain in Europe, Gulf countries and Asian markets. In such a situation, we have to find new opportunities.”

Mithila painting, Manjusha Kala and other contemporary arts exports to America from Bihar. More than a dozen artists have registered for exporting their art material at the Post Office Export Center. According to him, the art material worth about 50 lakh rupees is sent to America every year. Due to increasing tariffs, where art material will be expensive, the income of artists can also be affected.

Experts believe that the production of Makhana is still lower than global demand. Apart from America, there is a huge demand in Gulf countries, Europe and many parts of Asia. If orders from the US market decrease, then the exporters of Bihar can turn to other countries. This is the reason that now exporters have started searching for new markets.
