Gaurav Singh, the son of Indian Army personnel Rajesh Kumar, has achieved an impressive All India Rank of 9 in the 2026 NEET UG examination by securing 705 out of a possible 720 marks. This accomplishment is a result of years dedicated to disciplined preparation, marking one of the top performances in the country. Gaurav’s immediate ambition is to pursue medical studies at AIIMS Delhi.
The results for the NEET UG 2026 were published on July 16, with Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana emerging as the top scorers, each obtaining 715 marks. Gaurav hails from Gaduwas village in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, and his journey reveals an unwavering commitment to his goals without seeking shortcuts.
“I attended classes daily and revisited NCERT textbooks numerous times,” he stated. He emphasised the importance of continuous revision and taking assessments seriously, which were integral aspects of his approach.
Family Support and Motivation
The aspiration to enter the medical field has been a family dream. Gaurav’s elder sister, Anuja, previously prepared for NEET at ALLEN Kota and is currently pursuing an MBBS at ESIC Medical College, Alwar. Observing her success greatly influenced Gaurav and solidified his ambition to also wear the doctor’s coat.
<h4“Her hard work and discipline consistently motivated me, and I was inspired to follow in her footsteps,” he stated. His mother, Seema Devi, also played a crucial role in his education. She relocated to Kota with both children during their preparation to provide unwavering emotional support, allowing them to focus entirely on their studies.
<h4“Throughout our journey, my mother has been a major pillar of support. She always encouraged us,” Gaurav added, highlighting the importance of family in his academic success.
Rigorous Study Approach
For seven years, Gaurav attended classes at ALLEN Career Institute, complementing his coaching with a rigorous personal study regime. He dedicated seven to eight hours daily to self-study, prioritising NCERT materials over a plethora of resources. This focused approach allowed him to strengthen his foundational concepts effectively.
Gaurav believes that his most significant learning occurred after mock tests, where he analysed his mistakes diligently. “I think that learning from errors post-exam and rectifying them is the key to success,” he remarked. This habit of reviewing mistakes became one of his most effective strategies during his preparation period.
Instead of merely checking scores, Gaurav focused on understanding where he could improve, which contributed positively to his overall performance in the examinations.
Maintaining Balance and Discipline
Similar to many teenagers, Gaurav used a smartphone. However, he was adamant that maintaining discipline was essential for success. “I did use a smartphone, but I never misused it,” he noted. He also recognised the need to avoid burnout, often unwinding through cricket before returning to his studies, which helped him maintain mental clarity.
Reflecting on his journey, Gaurav attributes his achievements to consistency rather than brilliance. He followed the guidance of his teachers, engaged in regular revision, and improved continually after each assessment. “I simply relied on what the faculty instructed us,” he stated. His experience illustrates that achieving top ranks often involves the repetition of routine, dedication, and resilience.
For this soldier’s son from Alwar, the consistent habits cultivated over the years have opened pathways to some of the leading medical institutions in the country, with AIIMS Delhi firmly in his sights.
