Union Minister G Kishan Reddy hosted Raksha Bandhan celebrations at his residence in Hyderabad, where his sister, Padma, performed the traditional ritual of tying a rakhi on his wrist. Other family members participated in similar ceremonies, highlighting the importance of familial bonds during this auspicious occasion. In a similar vein, Telangana BJP President Ramchander Rao was observed celebrating with a rakhi tied by his sister at their home in Tarnaka.

Further contributing to the celebrations, Telangana Ministers Konda Surekha and Anasuya Seethaka visited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his Jubilee Hills residence, where they also participated in the tying of rakhis, reinforcing the sense of community and brotherhood that surrounds this festival.

Unique Celebrations in Lucknow

In Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, the market at ‘Phoolon Wali Gali’ showcased a growing trend of eco-friendly floral rakhis, made from fresh and natural flowers. These innovative rakhis have garnered significant attention, catering to environmentally-conscious consumers. A local shopkeeper, who has been crafting rakhis for a decade, remarked on the creative process involved, stating, “We have continued the tradition, and I have been making Rakhis for about ten years now. The effort and requirements depend entirely on the design. There is no fixed quantity; it all depends on the design, such as rose-style designs.”

Initiatives in Maharashtra and Bihar

In Maharashtra, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale commemorated the festival by visiting Kamathipura, Mumbai’s red-light district. This marked his inaugural visit to the area, where he expressed compassion for the women residing there, noting that many find themselves in such conditions out of necessity. He shared his intention to aid in addressing their issues, underscoring the need for employment opportunities to integrate them into society. “They tied a Rakhi on my wrist with their own hands. I intend to make efforts to resolve their issues,” Minister Athawale communicated.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a distinct manner by tying a rakhi to a tree during the state-level “Tree Protection Day” event held at Rajdhani Vatika in Patna. This initiative not only highlighted environmental awareness but also coincided with tributes paid by the Chief Minister to freedom fighter and former Union Minister Upendranath Verma on his death anniversary.

Traditional Celebrations in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the celebrated Bagwal Mela at Maa Barahi Dham in Devidhura, Champawat, which is traditionally held on Raksha Bandhan. This unique festival involves two teams engaging in a stone-throwing contest while protecting themselves with large wooden shields. Accompanying the festivities are traditional music, singing, and dancing, providing a rich cultural experience that marks the occasion.
