Supriya Sule Remembers Cousin Ajit Pawar on Raksha Bandhan

The CSR Journal Magazine

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), honoured the memory of her late cousin, Ajit Pawar, who served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In a poignant post shared on X, she reflected on the deep-rooted connection they shared since childhood, expressing profound sorrow over his recent passing.

In her heartfelt message, Sule articulated the emotional turmoil of celebrating Raksha Bandhan without her cousin. She noted, “Dear Dada, today is Raksha Bandhan… but this time, you’re not with us, and this realisation is making my heart deeply restless. That horrific morning seven months ago and your sudden departure… even today, I can’t bring myself to believe it.”

Cherished Memories of Their Childhood

Sule reminisced about their childhood experiences, stating that their shared moments of affection and rivalry were the building blocks of their bond. She conveyed a sense of nostalgia, longing for the times they spent together. “From childhood, growing up together, our fights, the love we shared for each other, and the pride we felt in one another–these were the foundation of our bond,” she wrote.

Sule expressed her wish that Ajit Pawar could once again be present with the family, urging, “Even now, it feels like you’ll suddenly appear from somewhere, let me tie the rakhi on you, chat and laugh with your sisters, and immerse yourself back into the family.” Her post ended with a poignant acknowledgement of the void his absence has created, declaring, “The void created by your absence can never be filled. Wherever you are, may your love and blessings always remain by my side forever.”

Circumstances of Ajit Pawar’s Passing

Ajit Pawar tragically passed away on January 28, when the Learjet 45 aircraft (VT-SSK) he was aboard crash-landed while attempting to reach Baramati airport in Pune district. The incident occurred just short of the runway threshold, resulting in the deaths of all five individuals onboard, which included Pawar, his personal security officer, a flight attendant, and two pilots. He was en route from Mumbai to Baramati to participate in campaigning for the Zilla Panchayat elections.

Ajit Pawar was a significant political figure in Maharashtra, holding the position of Deputy Chief Minister for six terms across various administrations. He served in cabinets led by prominent chief ministers, including Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray, and Eknath Shinde. His contribution to the state’s political landscape was noteworthy, marking him as one of the most influential leaders in Maharashtra.

Sule’s tribute reflects not only her affection for her cousin but also underscores the impact that Ajit Pawar had on those around him, illustrating his legacy within both the family and the broader political sphere in Maharashtra. The sentiments expressed on Raksha Bandhan resonate with the heavy emotions many feel when commemorating loved ones lost too soon.
