The CSR Journal Magazine

Three siblings were discovered deceased in their locked flat located in Virar West, Maharashtra, with authorities suspecting that they may have taken their own lives through poisoning. The incident has raised concerns among local residents and prompted an investigation by the police.

The victims have been identified as Kumar Mansukhlal Mehta, aged 50, Deepesh Mansukhlal Mehta, aged 52, and their sister Khevna Mansukhlal Mehta, aged 48. Reports indicate that one of the siblings had been battling cancer, and the family was reportedly facing significant financial difficulties. These factors are believed to have contributed to the tragic circumstances.

On Thursday, residents of the Global City residential complex alerted authorities after noticing a foul odour emanating from the flat. This prompted the society secretary to contact the police, leading to a swift response from law enforcement.

Investigation and Forensic Analysis

Upon arriving at the scene, the police conducted a thorough inspection of the flat, where they found the bodies of the three siblings. Initial investigations suggest that the cause of death may be linked to suicide by poisoning, although the exact cause has yet to be confirmed. The police are exploring all possible angles to understand the situation better.

A forensic team was dispatched to the flat to gather evidence, and a panchnama was prepared, documenting the scene and circumstances in the presence of independent witnesses. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, which will help establish the definitive cause of death.

The Bolinj police have registered an accidental death report and are actively pursuing the investigation. Authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident, taking into account the family’s reported struggles.

Previous Incidents in the Residential Complex

This incident marks the third reported suicide within the same residential building in the past year, raising alarm among residents. Approximately two months prior, a former military officer allegedly died by suicide in the complex. Earlier, a Class 10 student also tragically lost their life after jumping from the 14th floor.

The recurrence of such incidents has left the community deeply concerned, with many residents expressing anxiety about their safety and mental well-being. The latest tragedy has intensified discussions around mental health and the importance of support systems within residential areas.

Local authorities are now considering measures to address the growing concerns among residents, including potential mental health initiatives and community support programmes. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent deaths, aiming to provide clarity and reassurance to the community.
