‘We Don’t Want to Trouble You Anymore’: Mother Jumps with Mentally-Ill Son from 13th Floor

The CSR Journal Magazine

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Saturday morning in Greater Noida West’s Ace City residential complex, where a 37-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son allegedly jumped to their deaths from the 13th floor of their apartment. Police are investigating the case as a suspected suicide, with mental health concerns believed to be a contributing factor.

The woman, identified as Sakshi Chawla, had been under considerable emotional strain due to her son’s prolonged neurodevelopmental illness. Her son, Daksh, had reportedly been undergoing treatment for over a decade, but his condition showed little improvement, according to police sources.

Authorities recovered a suicide note from the Chawlas’ residence. In the handwritten letter addressed to her husband, Sakshi wrote, “We are leaving this world… Sorry. We do not want to trouble you anymore. Your life should not be ruined because of us. No one is responsible for our death.”

Tragedy Strikes Minutes After Medication Request

According to early investigations, Sakshi’s husband, Darpan Chawla, a chartered accountant, was inside another room in the apartment when the incident occurred. He told the police he had requested his wife around 9 am to administer medication to their son. Shortly after, he reportedly heard a loud scream and rushed out to find the tragic scene below their balcony.

Local residents said the incident occurred around 10 AM, and the sound of the fall caused immediate panic in the area. Neighbours quickly alerted authorities after witnessing the mother and child lying motionless on the ground in the common area of the society.

The police reached the site promptly and cordoned off the area to carry out formalities. Both bodies were declared dead at the scene and later sent for autopsy. As of now, no criminal case has been registered, but an in-depth probe is ongoing to understand the complete sequence of events.

Suicide Note Found

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), Shakti Avasthy, stated, “A police team found a suicide note and learnt that the son was unwell for some time. We are taking necessary steps.” The officer also confirmed that the incident has deeply disturbed the family and residents of the society.

Additional DCP Shavya Goyal added, “Information received so far indicates the mother was extremely anxious about the boy.” Police sources revealed that the family had even explored spiritual and alternative treatments for the child in addition to regular medication, but his health condition remained unchanged.

Originally from a village in Uttarakhand, the Chawlas had been living in Greater Noida for several years. According to the preliminary report, the child was not attending school and required constant care, which may have contributed to the mother’s deteriorating mental health.

As the investigation continues, officials are piecing together a detailed timeline and interviewing relatives and neighbours. The case has not only shaken the immediate family but also left the community in shock over the emotional toll prolonged caregiving can take on individuals.
