Momos Worth Rs 85 Lakh? UP Boy Gives Away Family Jewellery to Street Vendor for Free Momos

The CSR Journal Magazine

A bizarre case has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, where a 14-year-old boy’s fondness for momos allegedly resulted in his family losing jewellery worth nearly Rs 85 lakh. What initially appeared to be an innocent food habit has now become the subject of a police investigation involving alleged manipulation and theft.

Father Alleges Vendors Exploited Minor

According to a complaint filed at the Rampur Karkhana police station, the boy’s father, Vimlesh Mishra, claimed that three men operating a local momo stall took advantage of his son’s liking for the snack. Mishra, who works as a temple priest in Varanasi, alleged that the vendors began offering free momos to the child and gradually persuaded him to bring valuables from home in return.

Jewellery Taken in Installments

Police sources said the boy, a Class 7 student, allegedly brought jewellery from his home over a period of time and handed it over to the momo sellers. The valuables reportedly included ornaments belonging to multiple family members. The vendors are accused of assuring the child that he would continue receiving free food in exchange for the items.

Theft Discovered After Family Visit

The matter came to light when Mishra’s sister visited the house and asked for her jewellery. Upon opening the cupboard, the family discovered that it was empty. When questioned, the boy reportedly admitted that he had given the jewellery to the momo stall operators in exchange for momos.

Police Begin Investigation

Shocked by the revelation, the family lodged a formal complaint, naming all three accused. The total value of the missing jewellery has been estimated at Rs 85 lakh. Police have initiated an investigation to verify the claims, trace the jewellery, and examine the role of the vendors.

Authorities Examine Legal Angles

Law enforcement officials said they are looking into possible charges, including theft, cheating, and influencing a minor. Statements are being recorded, and efforts are underway to recover the valuables. The incident has sparked concern in the local community, highlighting issues related to child supervision and exploitation.
