Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Vadodara on September 8 is distinguished not only by the extensive infrastructure projects planned but also by a new approach to public participation. For the first time, citizens could register for a Prime Minister’s public programme through the BookMyShow platform at no cost. This innovative method was employed by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) for the event titled “NaMo for Viksit Bharat.”

The event is scheduled to take place at the Maharaja Sayajirao University Pavilion and aims to unite diverse groups, including citizens, students, educators, and industry representatives, around the government’s vision for a developed India by 2047. The public’s response was rapid and enthusiastic.

All available seats for the event were reserved within an hour of registration opening, and an additional 42,000 individuals found themselves on a waiting list, as reported by news agency ANI. Consequently, registration was closed ahead of the event.

Digital Admission Process and Event Schedule

The upcoming event will feature a fully digital entry system. Registered attendees will receive an electronic M-ticket via BookMyShow accounts, which will contain a live QR code for entry verification. This initiative reflects a move towards modernising public engagement and streamlining event participation.

Prime Minister Modi’s schedule for September 8 is packed, with the Vadodara event being just one aspect of his busy day. Following the event, he will travel to Maharashtra to participate in further activities, indicating a comprehensive agenda focused on developmental initiatives.

In Vadodara, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay foundation stones for various development projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore. These projects align with the broader goals of enhancing infrastructure and promoting economic growth in the region.

Key Infrastructure Projects Announced

A prominent feature of the PM’s itinerary in Gujarat will be the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, covering a total of 326 kilometres. This substantial project, which has exceeded a cost of Rs 20,700 crore, aims to provide direct rail connectivity between northern India and Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT).

The operationalisation of these sections is projected to enhance EXIM cargo movement significantly, reduce logistics costs, and alleviate pressure on existing railway routes. Moreover, Prime Minister Modi will flag off freight services from New Sanand, New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT, along with announcing a new passenger train service that will connect Vadodara with Tanda Road.

In addition, the Prime Minister will initiate the Jobat-Tanda Road rail line, specifically aimed at linking remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur to the national railway network. Foundation stones will also be laid for three other railway projects, covering 329 kilometres, with an investment of more than Rs 9,700 crore, along with three highway projects estimated at around Rs 1,780 crore.

Further, various development projects by the Gujarat government, amounting to approximately Rs 2,600 crore, will also be addressed. These encompass a second-phase ring road around Vadodara, a 110 MW floating solar initiative at Kadana Dam, and the construction of a new municipal corporation office. Additional projects include housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water supply initiative for eleven villages.

Later that day, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Mumbai to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026, which will centre on topics such as agentic AI, tokenisation, and quantum technologies aimed at developing trusted and inclusive financial systems.
