The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills has issued an order advising all state government employees to exercise utmost restraint while using their personal and social media accounts in view of the prevailing situation in the district.
The order was issued on Saturday by District Magistrate Vibhor Aggarwal, directing government employees to refrain from sharing any content that could disturb public order or provoke reactions among sections of society.
Restrictions on posts related to law and order
According to the order, government employees are strictly prohibited from posting or forwarding messages, audio or video clips, pictures, or any other content that may be incendiary or provocative in nature.
The directive also states that employees must avoid posting or commenting on law and order incidents occurring in other districts or states in a way that could evoke public reaction or resentment. The administration warned that such posts could potentially aggravate the already tense situation in the district.
Legal and disciplinary action for violations
The order applies to all government offices in the district, and Heads of Offices have been instructed to ensure strict compliance among their employees.
The administration has cautioned that any violation of the directive will invite legal action under relevant provisions of law. In addition, disciplinary proceedings may be initiated under the Meghalaya Civil Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 2019.
