Massive Protests Erupt in Lucknow: Shia Community Condemns US-Israel Military Strikes

The CSR Journal Magazine

A large number of demonstrators took to the streets of old Lucknow on Sunday, expressing outrage over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel.

The protest, organized by the Shia community, saw a significant turnout, as people voiced their condemnation of the actions taken by these two nations. Prominent Shia cleric Maulana Yasub Abbas publicly denounced the killing, describing it as “very unfortunate” for the international community.

Statements from Shia Leaders

Maulana Yasub Abbas emphasized the protest’s significance, asserting that the world is mistaken if it believes that Iran will be weakened by Khamenei’s death. “America and Israel will receive a befitting reply from Iran,” he remarked. To commemorate this event, Abbas announced that people would gather at Lucknow’s Imambara at 8:30 PM for further demonstrations. Furthermore, the All India Shia Personal Law Board has declared a three-day mourning period, urging followers to wear black attire and display black flags at their residences.

Iran’s Response to the Killing

In response to Khamenei’s assassination, Iran is observing a 40-day period of public mourning. The Iranian Embassy in India condemned the killing, labeling it an “unforgivable crime.” In a statement, the Embassy called on governments worldwide to denounce the act. Additionally, it shared a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, detailing military actions taken by Iran in retaliation. These actions included engagements against an American vessel and a naval base located in Kuwait.

Embassy’s Call for Global Condemnation

The Iranian Embassy’s announcement expressed profound sorrow over Khamenei’s death following the attacks executed by the United States and Israel. It extended condolences to Imam Mahdi and the broader Muslim community, as well as the citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Embassy further urged independence-seeking governments across the globe to denounce what it termed a blatant crime and to avoid a stance of silence against such lawlessness and aggression.
