Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently announced the introduction of new stoppages for two trains at the newly developed Nishatpura Railway Station in Bhopal. This decision aims to enhance rail connectivity as part of the state’s extensive preparations for the Simhastha 2028 religious event. The newly established stoppages apply to the Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Malwa Express and the Veraval-Jabalpur Express, which also illustrates a significant upgrade in the region’s transportation infrastructure.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister flagged off the Malwa Express, highlighting that Bhopal is now home to its fourth railway station. He pointed out that over the last 12 years, Indian Railways has experienced remarkable growth and modernisation. The Nishatpura station is anticipated to reduce travel times substantially, thereby improving overall operational efficiency.

Significance for Simhastha 2028 Preparations

As preparations intensify for the upcoming Simhastha 2028, it is estimated that nearly 400 million pilgrims are expected to visit Madhya Pradesh, underscoring the need for improved transportation facilities. The Chief Minister remarked that these new railway stations are essential for alleviating congestion during this large-scale religious gathering. The enhancements in the railway services are designed to facilitate better management of the expected influx of devotees.

Nishatpura Railway Station has been developed at a cost of Rs 14 crore and is aimed at fostering growth in the surrounding areas, while also providing enhanced amenities for passengers. The station is expected to enable travellers between New Delhi, Ujjain, and Indore to board trains directly from Nishatpura, thus saving them the need to journey to the principal Bhopal station.

Yadav highlighted that improved railway infrastructure would support not just passenger travel but also stimulate trade, agriculture, and freight transportation across Madhya Pradesh. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their backing in advancing railway infrastructure in the state.

Investment and Developments in Railway Infrastructure

The Chief Minister disclosed an increase in the railway budget allocation for Madhya Pradesh, which surged from Rs 632 crore during the period from 2009 to 2014 to Rs 15,288 crore for the year 2026-27. This increase represents a 24-fold rise that reflects the prioritisation of rail infrastructure development in the state. Presently, projects valued at Rs 1.18 lakh crore are ongoing in Madhya Pradesh, further testament to the committed enhancements being made.

In terms of sustainability, Yadav noted that Madhya Pradesh has already achieved full electrification of its railway lines. The introduction of modern train services, including the Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express, was also emphasised. Plans are underway for the manufacturing of modern railway coaches in proximity to Bhopal, signalling further industrial growth in the sector.

The Chief Minister provided additional information regarding the extensive railway expansion in the state since 2014, stating that around 2,800 kilometres of new railway lines have been established. He elaborated on the progress in railway track construction, highlighting that the pace has escalated from four kilometres per day to 34 kilometres per day under the current government’s leadership. Bhopal’s railway infrastructure now encompasses four major stations, namely Rani Kamlapati, Bhopal Junction, Sant Hirdaram Nagar, and Nishatpura, in addition to the recent acquisition of 13 Amrit Stations under the station redevelopment initiative.
