Kremlin Says Zelenskyy Can Visit Moscow for Serious Talks on Ukraine Conflict

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Kremlin on Tuesday said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could travel to Moscow for talks if he is prepared for “responsible and serious” discussions aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The remarks were made by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a media briefing.

According to Russian state news agency TASS, Peskov also stated that no official channels of communication currently exist between Moscow and Kyiv, even as diplomatic efforts continue to explore possible avenues for de-escalation.

Kremlin Says Dialogue Channels Are Absent

Speaking on the prospects of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Peskov said there are no formal mechanisms for communication between the two sides at present.

Despite the absence of official channels, he indicated that Moscow remains open to direct engagement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if he is willing to hold substantive discussions.

Peskov referred to earlier statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin and said the Russian position had already been conveyed on multiple occasions.

Russia Signals Readiness for Direct Talks

According to Peskov, the Ukrainian leadership is aware of the conditions under which Moscow would be prepared to host talks.

He said that if Zelenskyy is ready to engage in serious and responsible discussions, he could travel to Moscow and would be received there.

The remarks suggest that Russia continues to leave the door open for direct negotiations despite the lack of regular communication mechanisms between the two countries.

US Emissaries Expected to Visit Russia

Peskov also commented on the anticipated visit of US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Russia for discussions related to the Ukraine conflict.

He said no exact dates have been fixed for the visit, though it is expected to take place in the near future.

According to the Kremlin spokesperson, the American side is currently occupied with preparations for signing a memorandum that has already been agreed upon.

Switzerland Signing Expected Before Moscow Visit

Peskov said the memorandum is scheduled to be signed in Switzerland later this week and suggested that the US envoys could travel to Moscow afterwards.

While no timeline has been officially announced, he indicated that the completion of the Swiss engagement would likely determine the timing of the Russian visit.

The planned talks are part of wider diplomatic efforts involving multiple countries seeking ways to bring an end to the conflict.

Putin Not Invited to G7 Summit

Responding to questions regarding the ongoing G7 Summit in France, Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin had not received an invitation to attend the gathering.

“There was no invitation, of course,” he said, according to TASS.

Russia has not been a member of the grouping since 2014, when the then G8 format reverted to the G7 following Moscow’s annexation of Crimea.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The latest remarks come amid continuing international efforts to find pathways towards de-escalation and broader regional stability.

Several countries have been engaged in diplomatic initiatives aimed at encouraging dialogue and creating conditions conducive to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

While significant differences remain between Moscow and Kyiv, statements from both sides and international mediators indicate that diplomatic channels continue to be explored despite the absence of formal negotiations.
