Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Criticizes Rahul Gandhi and Congress as BJP’s ‘B-Team’

The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has sharply criticized the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of functioning as the ‘B-team’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In an interview, Vijayan outlined his perspective, suggesting that some individuals, including Gandhi, remain oblivious to reality, describing them as “a rare phenomenon.” He specifically pointed to Gandhi’s previous allegations against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal concerning the excise policy case, which were dismissed by the court, exonerating Kejriwal. Vijayan remarked that this dismissal was a significant setback for Congress and emphasized that Gandhi’s persistence in repeating these allegations illustrates a failure to learn from past experiences.

Concerns Over Communal Politics

In his statements, Vijayan further accused the Congress party of aligning itself with the BJP at both state and national levels. He asserted that the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have evolved into a faction that is unreserved in its collaboration with the BJP. Vijayan expressed that the two parties often adopt similar opposition strategies against the Left Democratic Front (LDF), thereby potentially undermining the political landscape in Kerala. Additionally, he discussed communal politics and stressed the importance of taking a firm stand against communal forces. He underscored a distinction between religious organizations and communalism, stating that it is crucial to oppose communal forces while recognizing the role of religious entities.

Response to Opposition on Sabarimala Gold Issue

Vijayan dismissed the criticisms raised by the opposition regarding the loss of gold from the Sabarimala temple. He noted that the Kerala High Court is overseeing the investigation and assured that anyone found culpable in this matter would face consequences. The Chief Minister mentioned that the UDF is leveraging this issue to sway voters ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. He reiterated that the current administration is committed to transparency and accountability in managing temple assets.

Accusations Against Central Government

The Chief Minister also expressed grievances regarding the central government’s perceived antagonism toward Kerala on various issues. He criticized remarks made by BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who had claimed that the central government has provided substantial support to the state. Vijayan dismissed these claims as ‘nonsense’ and articulated that Kerala has been facing obstacles from the central authority rather than receiving assistance. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing reforms in higher education aimed at enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of educational institutions in Kerala, marking them as significant strides towards improving institutional standards.
