Amitabh Bachchan’s Rs 15 Crore Ayodhya Property To Become Memorial For Father

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amitabh Bachchan is taking steps to build a memorial dharamshala in Ayodhya in honour of his father, Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan. An application for the architectural blueprint has been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA). The proposed structure is set to feature more than 20 rooms and will be constructed on land that has been acquired for around Rs 15 crore as part of ‘The Sarayu’ project along Dashrath Path. The ADA has issued a public notice inviting objections to the submitted layout within a 15-day timeframe, after which the formal approval process will commence.

Once the necessary clearances are obtained, construction is anticipated to start in October. The Vice Chairman of the ADA, Anurag Jain, highlighted that several notable individuals across the nation are contributing to the development initiatives in Ayodhya. He acknowledged the application received from Amitabh Bachchan for the dharamshala’s plans, which is now open for public reviews and comments.

Tribute to Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s Legacy

Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a distinguished Hindi poet and translator, is remembered for his significant contributions to literature. His celebrated work, Madhushala, published in 1935, has endeared him to readers across generations. Apart from his poetry, he is recognised for his Hindi translations of Shakespeare’s plays, further enhancing the cultural discourse in the language. Being a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, he holds a revered position in Indian literary history.

Teji Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan’s mother, was not only a social activist but also an accomplished theatre artist who served as a director of the Film Finance Corporation of India. Together, both parents have played instrumental roles in shaping Bachchan’s rich heritage. The planned dharamshala will serve as a fitting tribute to the enduring impact of their legacy.

The creation of this memorial is not only aimed at honouring Dr Bachchan’s memory but also at providing enhanced facilities for the many devotees who visit Ayodhya, a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus. With the establishment of this dharamshala, visiting families will have increased access to accommodation and other essential services during their spiritual journeys.
