In a chilling murder case from Jharkhand’s Chanho area, a woman was arrested along with her relatives for allegedly killing her husband and burying his body in a well to hide the crime. The murder remained unsolved for nearly six months before police cracked the case, revealing a dark tale of property dispute and betrayal.
Missing Complaint Triggers Investigation
The case came to light on October 7 when Rahul Yadav, a resident of Varanasi, lodged a complaint at Chanho police station. He reported that his father, Rambali Yadav, who had been living with his second wife in Badhaiya village for the past 12 years, had been unreachable for over six months. Fearing foul play, he urged the police to investigate as reported by India Today.
Taking the complaint seriously, Ranchi SSP formed a special investigation team under SP (Rural) Praveen Pushkar and Khilari DSP. During the probe, Rambali’s second wife, Champa Oraon alias Champa Devi, came under suspicion due to her unusual behavior. She was placed under surveillance and later detained for questioning.
Shocking Confession and Body Recovery
Under interrogation, Champa confessed to plotting the murder with her relative Vishnu Oraon and others, including two minors. The motive was a dispute over money, Rambali had sold a plot of land and sent the proceeds to his first wife and children in Varanasi, angering Champa.
In a well-planned attack, the group allegedly shot Rambali and dumped his body in a disused well located in a nearby field. They then used a JCB machine to fill the well with soil in an attempt to erase all evidence. Acting on her confession, police excavated the well under the supervision of a magistrate and recovered Rambali’s decomposed body. It was sent to RIMS Ranchi for post-mortem.
