Indian Railways Plans Over 300 Special Trains for Rath Yatra 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian Railways is set to operate more than 300 special trains to facilitate the influx of devotees heading to Puri for the Rath Yatra 2026. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised that these services are additional to the more than 800 regular trains currently in service. The initiative aims to enhance the travel experience during one of India’s most significant religious events.

Minister Vaishnaw confirmed the preparations are designed to ensure a smooth journey for all passengers during the festival. He also mentioned his commitment to personally oversee the arrangements to maximise efficiency and minimize any disruptions. The special trains are expected to greatly assist in managing the increased passenger load typical of this annual pilgrimage.

With a focus on passenger convenience, the Railways is endeavouring to alleviate potential travel issues that usually arise during such high-traffic periods. These added services will address the anticipated demand and offer more options for those travelling to witness the festivities in Puri.

Enhanced Facilities at Puri Railway Station

To prepare for the substantial increase in passenger numbers, Indian Railways is developing a temporary holding area at Puri Railway Station. This facility is designed to accommodate approximately 30,000 passengers, significantly improving crowd management during the event. The holding area will facilitate smoother movement and help mitigate congestion at the station.

In addition to the temporary enhancements, the existing passenger facilities at the station will receive upgrades to ensure that those travelling for the Rath Yatra have access to necessary amenities. This includes better crowd control strategies and enhanced services to cater to the needs of the pilgrims effectively.

The steps being taken by Indian Railways signify their dedication to providing a safe and efficient travel environment. The ancillary improvements are aimed at ensuring that all passengers can navigate the station with ease, even during peak times associated with the festival.

Additional Services for Onam Festival

Alongside the special trains for Rath Yatra, Railway Minister Vaishnaw revealed plans for over 100 extra trains during the upcoming Onam festival. These services are intended to accommodate the growing travel demand associated with this cultural celebration, showcasing the Railways’ commitment to meeting the needs of devotees and tourists alike.

These additional trains are expected to further facilitate seamless travel for those participating in Onam festivities. The increased availability of services during festivals reflects the Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility during significant cultural occasions.

By providing special train services for both Rath Yatra and Onam, Indian Railways aims to manage the anticipated surge in passenger numbers effectively. This proactive approach underscores the organisation’s role in supporting large-scale religious and cultural events across the country.
