An Indian-origin high school student residing in Canada has achieved nationwide acclaim by securing the top position in a prominent data science competition. Gurnoor Kaur, a Grade 11 student at Central Peel Secondary School in Ontario, won first place at the National High School Big Data Challenge, an event organized by STEM Fellowship. Her project utilized artificial intelligence to predict the occurrence of crop diseases, specifically focusing on climate-induced wheat pathogen outbreaks across North America.

Kaur’s research centered on analyzing environmental patterns that contribute to the spread of wheat diseases. By employing extensive open datasets, Kaur examined climate records alongside historical data on crop disease outbreaks. O’Neil Space Settlement Contest and presented at the International Space Development Conference.
