The Pir Panjal Winter Festival, organized by the Indian Army’s Romeo Force 6 Sector, is currently taking place in Surankote Town, Poonch District, Jammu and Kashmir. The festivities commenced on February 3 and are set to conclude on February 16, 2026. The festival includes a range of sporting and cultural events aimed at local youth, highlighting activities such as cricket, volleyball, Kho-Kho, drawing and painting competitions, and singing contests.

Community Engagement Through Sports

This event aims to engage youth in positive activities, acting as an intervention to mitigate issues such as drug abuse in the region. Rajinder Kumar, Naib Tehsildar in Surankote, emphasized the importance of the festival in fostering discipline, confidence, and patience among children through various sports. He noted the rising concern regarding substance abuse among local youth, stating, “With immense enthusiasm, children participated in this festival.” Kumar expressed gratitude towards the Indian Army for providing an excellent platform for nurturing young talents.

Local Students Appreciate Opportunities

Students participating in the festival conveyed their appreciation for the initiatives taken by the Indian Army. One participant mentioned, “We are here to take part in the Pir Panjal Winter Festival. Last year, we participated and won as well. We owe our heartfelt thanks to the Indian Army for organizing tournaments in various sports like Kho-Kho, volleyball, cricket, and more. Winning again today made us feel very good, and the arrangements are commendable.” Their enthusiasm reflects a broader commitment to engage in constructive activities that promote community spirit and healthy competition.

Support from Local Authorities

The involvement of local authorities, including Kumar’s statements, aligns with a wider initiative aimed at redirecting youth towards healthier choices. The event is recognized as an important step in fostering a sense of community among children and equipping them with life skills. “It is our responsibility to bring our children back on track for those who are involved in drug abuse,” Kumar added. This proactive approach affirms the collaborative efforts between the government and army to create supportive environments for the youth.

Your Participation Matters

The festival is not just an event for competition but also serves as a social gathering, fostering community ties among families and residents. Through active participation in sports, children not only hone their skills but also create lasting memories. The Pir Panjal Winter Festival stands as a significant chapter in encouraging youth development in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between different societal elements for a holistic approach to youth empowerment.
