India’s Operation Sindoor an “act of war”, we will give “befitting reply”: Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif

At least seven persons, including a woman and two children, were killed and 38 others were injured Wednesday after Pakistan Army attacked villages with artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, officials told news agency PTI. This comes following India’s “Operation Sindoor” amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mostly tourists.

The Poonch district has been the worst affected, with seven fatalities and 25 others injured, according to reports. In addition, ten people were injured in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, while three others sustained injuries in Rajouri district, officials added.

Indian also wasted no time in responding to ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces, which commenced shortly after Operation Sindoor. As part of this operation conducted around 01.44 am on Wednesday, India conducted missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. However, India clarified that no Pakistani military facilities had been targeted.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday termed the Indian missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Punjab province as an “act of war” and said his country has every right to give a “befitting reply.” Sharif said India has carried out attacks on five places in Pakistan. “The enemy will never be allowed to succeed in his nefarious objectives,” he said, adding that the entire nation is with the Pakistani Armed Forces.

We will respond with full force: Pakistan

Pak Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan will respond with full force. “We will respond with full force. We will pay off this debt in the manner such debt is paid. All places are open for the international media to verify if they targeted terrorists’ camps or civilians”. Asif told Geo News.

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General responded to India’s strike on terror targets in its territory under Operation Sindoor and said in a statement that India’s “temporary pleasure will be replaced by enduring grief”. Pakistan will respond to it at a time and place of its own choosing, the statement of ISPR read, adding that the strikes by India “will not go unanswered”.

How Pakistan retaliated and killed civilians?

Pakistan violated ceasefire shortly after India’s Operation Sindoor and ended up killing civilians. While one person was killed in Mendhar, six died in Poonch, as per officials. Two CRPF jawans were reportedly injured in the shelling at Poonch. Officials informed that the shell landed at a bus stand.
Heavy shelling was reported in multiple sectors along the border.

Local media reports indicated that cross-border fire was underway in Krishna Ghati, Shahpur and Mankote in Poonch district, as well as Laam, Manjakote and Gambeer Brahmana in Rajouri. Intense artillery fire was also heard in the Uri and Tangdhar sectors of the Kashmir Valley. A woman was reported killed in Mankote.

“During the night of 06-07 May 2025, Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing including Artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K,” Lt Colonel Suneel Baratwal, PRO (Defence), Northern Command, said.

What is Operation Sindoor?

In the early hours of Wednesday, India launched “Operation Sindoor”, executing a series of precision strikes that successfully destroyed nine terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was a joint effort by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and was conducted entirely from Indian soil.Key targets included the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) base in Muridke.

Operation Sindoor – India’s response to Pahalgam terror attack

The strikes served as a decisive response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which had claimed the lives of 26 civilians. Using advanced precision weaponry and real-time intelligence, the Army, Navy, and Air Force conducted the strikes in coordination, avoiding any engagement with Pakistani military installations. India employed a range of high-precision, long-range strike weapons during the operation, including the SCALP cruise missile, the HAMMER precision-guided bomb, and loitering munitions.
