More than 2,000 members of the Tibetan community gathered at Tsuglagkhang, the main Tibetan temple in Dharamshala, for a special prayer ceremony for victims of the devastating floods in the Nepal-Tibet region.

The ceremony was organised by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and brought together ministers of the Tibetan government-in-exile, members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and CTA officials.

Community Unites in Grief

The gathering reflected the Tibetan community’s concern for those affected by the disaster. Participants offered prayers for victims who lost their lives and for the safety and recovery of survivors.

Tenzin Lekshay, spokesperson for the Tibetan government-in-exile, said the community had come together to pray for the flood victims and their families. He said Tibetans were deeply saddened by the situation and hoped for the well-being of those who survived.

Gompo Dhondup, a member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, said the gathering was also an expression of solidarity with families affected by the floods.

Several Tibetan Families Reportedly Washed Away

Following the prayer ceremony, Sikyong Penpa Tsering spoke about the situation and said the CTA was working to gather more information about the extent of the destruction.

According to Tsering, around 11 to 12 Tibetan families were completely washed away in the affected region. He stressed that prayers were being offered for all victims and their families during the difficult period.

The CTA is seeking further information to assess the impact of the floods and determine the extent of assistance that may be required.

Prayers Offer Hope Amid Disaster

The ceremony at Tsuglagkhang served not only as a religious observance but also as a gathering of solidarity and support. Hundreds of families and community members came together to remember those affected and express their hopes for the safety of survivors.

The gathering highlighted the close bonds within the Tibetan community in exile and its collective response to a disaster affecting people in the region.

As rescue and relief efforts continue in the flood-hit areas, the Tibetan community in Dharamshala has reaffirmed its support for affected families and offered prayers for those facing loss and displacement.
