The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National Foundation Museum and E-Library was inaugurated by Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on September 24, 2026, in Ranip, Ahmedabad. Upon his arrival, Sanghavi paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, signifying the respect and significance of the occasion. This new facility, which cost ₹11.01 crore, was developed by the state’s Social Justice and Empowerment Department and aims to utilise modern technologies to illuminate Ambedkar’s life, struggles, speeches, and his contributions towards social justice.

Government Initiatives for Social Justice

During his address, Sanghavi emphasised the state government’s commitment to several initiatives designed to uphold and propagate the teachings and legacy of Dr Ambedkar. He drew attention to the recently launched Sankalp Bhoomi project in Vadodara and the modern museum in Ranip, both aimed at fostering social harmony and equality within the state. Furthermore, he mentioned an increase in the income limit for post-matric scholarships from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh, alongside the approval of ₹231 crore dedicated to social upliftment, educational facilities, and cultural preservation, coinciding with the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Maharaj.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Pradyuman Vaja remarked that the inauguration represented more than just the opening of a building; it was an opportunity to reinforce constitutional values such as equality, liberty, fraternity, and social justice. He noted that September 23 was significant, as it marked the anniversary of Dr Ambedkar’s commitment made in Vadodara in 1917.

Urban Development Minister of State Darshana Vaghela expressed the belief that the museum, library, and auditorium complex would play an essential role in nurturing the education and overall development of the youth. She also underscored various government welfare programmes that aim to guarantee social upliftment, cultural preservation, and social harmony.

Importance of the Museum for Future Generations

Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot highlighted that the Constitution and provisions for reservation have opened doors for diverse sections of society, enabling them to access opportunities and participate in leadership roles. He called for the public to embrace Ambedkar’s teachings on education, organisation, and commitment to social progress. Sabarmati MLA Harshad Patel described the museum and e-library as pivotal centres that vividly illustrate Ambedkar’s life, challenges, and ideas through innovative technologies.

Former MP Kirit Solanki commended the state government for launching the foundation on a day of historical importance related to Ambedkar’s resolve in Vadodara in 1917. The museum showcases a variety of exhibits including murals, immersive virtual experiences of Ambedkar’s speeches, and audio-visual presentations, thereby bringing to light significant historical episodes connected with the Panch Teerth.

An audio-visual presentation detailing the Dr Ambedkar National Foundation was screened during the event. Incentive assistance was also awarded to children of sanitation workers who achieved top rankings in the state under the Safai Kamdar Nigam’s incentive assistance scheme. Additionally, Vijay Kanjibhai Parmar, a student with a disability who succeeded in securing a position as an Assistant Professor after residing at the Narsinh Bhagat Hostel, was also recognised during the ceremony. Attendees included numerous public representatives, officials, social workers, and members of the community, reflecting widespread support for the initiatives.
