Financial Dispute Between Rajpal Yadav and Lender Comes to Light, Businessman Claims Actor Owed Repayment Since 2010

The CSR Journal Magazine

Businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal has brought to public attention a long-standing financial disagreement with actor Rajpal Yadav. Agrawal asserts that he provided funds to Yadav to support his directorial debut over a decade ago and has faced ongoing challenges in recovering the amount. In 2010, Agrawal claims he lent Rs 5 crore to Yadav after being informed that the film required immediate financial support to avoid disastrous consequences. He stated that he even visited Yadav’s home, expressing his distress over the situation.

Actor Allegedly Guaranteed Loan Agreement

Agrawal emphasized that the funds were given as a loan, not as an investment, asserting that he essentially borrowed the money to facilitate the transaction. The film in question, “Ata Pata Laapata,” eventually made its debut but did not achieve commercial success. Agrawal further alleged that despite having a formal agreement for repayment within a specified timeframe, Yadav failed to settle the dues, which were stated to be due regardless of the film’s performance. According to Agrawal, Yadav had provided a personal guarantee as part of their arrangement.

Legal Action Escalates Over Unpaid Dues

As repayment deadlines lapsed, Agrawal reported that multiple revised agreements were drafted, and new cheques were issued without any payments being made. The situation escalated to legal proceedings, with Agrawal stating that interest had accrued over the years. Earlier this year, the Delhi High Court held Yadav liable for a significantly increased amount due to the unmet repayment obligations.

Initial Court Actions and Settlement Attempts

Agrawal shared that he once sought a court injunction to prevent the film’s release, citing terms from the agreement that purportedly permitted the transfer of specific rights and dues upon project completion. However, discussions between both parties led to the lifting of the stay, and the film was ultimately released. By 2013, with no resolution in sight, Agrawal initiated fresh legal proceedings. A subsequent court-mediated settlement reportedly resulted in a higher repayment figure being established.

Ongoing Issues with Cheque Payments

While Yadav has reportedly issued several cheques to settle the debt, Agrawal claims these cheques were dishonoured, prompting ongoing cheque-bounce legal proceedings. Yadav has since received interim bail in this case, with the next hearing set for March 18. The duration and circumstances of this financial conflict highlight the complexity and challenges individuals face in contractual agreements within the entertainment industry.
