Emmanuel Macron Visits Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Quashes Road Closure Rumours

The CSR Journal Magazine

On February 19, French President Emmanuel Macron made an official visit to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in New Delhi, where he sought blessings during his time at the revered site. Accompanied by government officials, Macron was seen participating in the Kirtan, a traditional Sikh prayer service, which featured the melodious chanting of sacred verses. This cultural engagement highlighted the significance of interfaith dialogue and mutual respect.

Officials from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), including President Sardar Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, responded to circulating rumors regarding road closures during Macron’s visit. They affirmed that such claims were unfounded and labeled them as deliberate misinformation. The DSGMC leaders assured that the police had been in communication with them, explaining that no roads would be obstructed during any VIP visits.

President Kalka expressed gratitude to the local Sangat, or congregation, for their support and cooperation. He emphasized the DSGMC’s commitment to ensuring smooth operations and reiterated that any lapses in managing such events would not be acceptable. The visit attracted considerable attention, reflecting the ongoing partnership between France and India.

Macron Highlights Strong Bilateral Ties Between France and India

In conjunction with his visit to the Gurdwara, Macron discussed the evolving relationship between France and India during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He described the nations as now sharing a Special Global Strategic Partnership that is distinctive and poised for further expansion. Macron remarked on the strong ties that have developed in recent years, citing numerous high-level exchanges between both countries.

Macron noted that this was his fourth bilateral visit as president and highlighted the frequency of interactions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With both leaders meeting over twenty times recently, he outlined a dense agenda focused on key areas, particularly defense. He underscored the collaboration aimed at fostering security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, signaling mutual interests in countering any form of dominance or conflict.

These statements were shared with reporters on the sidelines of the summit, emphasizing the shared vision between the two nations. The interactions exemplify a commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties further, which has been a cornerstone of both countries’ foreign policies in recent years.
