French President Macron Calls for End to Iranian Attacks in the Region

In a statement shared on X, Macron expressed the necessity of ending what he termed the “unacceptable attacks” against neighboring countries. He also highlighted the importance of safeguarding energy and civilian infrastructure and restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Negotiation and De-escalation Urged

During the conversation, Macron urged Iran to participate sincerely in negotiations, aiming to create a pathway for de-escalation. He mentioned the need for a framework that addresses international expectations concerning Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs, as well as its actions that destabilize the region. Macron also called for the safe return of French nationals Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris as a priority.

UK Prime Minister Discusses Regional Situation

Earlier on the same day, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding the current situation in West Asia. According to a spokesperson from Downing Street, Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s support for Saudi Arabia amid ongoing regional attacks and updated the Crown Prince on the deployment of additional UK defensive military equipment.

Criticism of Iranian Attacks by UK Leadership

Starmer described Iran’s ongoing attacks, particularly on essential national infrastructure, as appalling. He informed that the UK is collaborating with partners to create a viable plan that ensures the passage of goods through this vital maritime route. The discussions follow a joint statement led by the UK in the previous week, illustrating a coordinated approach towards the challenges facing the region.

Israel Denies Involvement in US-Iran Talks

In other developments, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, stated that his country is not involved in the alleged upcoming talks between the US and Iran. He confirmed to UN reporters that both the US and Israel continue to target military installations within Iran and will persist in these efforts moving forward.
