Dossier Reveals Pakistan’s Severe Crackdown In POK

The CSR Journal Magazine

A confidential dossier has revealed details of a large-scale crackdown by Pakistani security forces in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) between June 5 and June 9. The document, accessed by India Today, outlines the violent response of authorities against protesters affiliated with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). Reports indicate that numerous individuals have lost their lives during these confrontations, primarily protesters advocating against alleged human rights abuses and economic hardships.

The dossier suggests that more than 15 civilians have been killed amid the protests and subsequent military operations in the region. Notably, it claims the fatalities include 19 children and seven pregnant women. The report is calling for an international investigation into these alleged incidents, reflecting escalating concerns over human rights violations in the area.

Additionally, the document details the deployment of approximately 14,000 security personnel from mainland Pakistan to suppress dissent in POJK. Allegations have emerged regarding the use of live ammunition against unarmed protesters and mourners, intensifying the call for global scrutiny.

International Response To Alleged Violence

In light of the reported violence, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has condemned Pakistan for disseminating misinformation, asserting that these actions serve to distract from genuine human rights violations occurring within POJK. The MEA noted a pattern of misleading information and highlighted incidents of police brutality in the region.

Indian authorities aim to highlight these alleged abuses, hoping that the international community will hold Pakistan accountable. The MEA’s statement underscores the growing tensions between the two nations regarding accountability for actions taken within POJK.

While Pakistani officials claim the crackdown was a response to “guerrilla-style” attacks by the JAAC, protests have continued to erupt across various regions, including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In an attempt to stifle dissent, the government has imposed mobile internet service suspensions amidst an environment of increasing unrest.

Global Reactions and Ongoing Protests

The protests have not remained confined to the region and have garnered significant attention internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom. Members of the Kashmiri diaspora have gathered outside a Pakistani embassy, voicing their concerns regarding the situation in POJK. This growing movement aims to raise awareness of the ongoing human rights situation in the region.

At least 30 British Members of Parliament have contacted the UK government, urging it to adopt a proactive diplomatic approach to encourage a peaceful resolution. Their concerns focus on reported arrests, communication restrictions, and the apparent breakdown of dialogue between JAAC representatives and authorities.

As protests continue to unfold in both POJK and abroad, the circumstances surrounding this crackdown remain highly fraught. Activists and local populations persist in mobilising against the actions of the Pakistani government, as escalating tensions hint at a broader conflict over human rights and civil liberties in the region.
