Dhurandhar Sets New Record, Fastest Bollywood Film to ₹500 crore

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ranveer Singh’s explosive spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has scripted box office history. On its 15th day, the film stormed into the prestigious 500 crore club in India, becoming the fastest Bollywood release to achieve this feat. The movie raked in about Rs 23 to 24 crore on its third Friday, pushing its India net total to Rs 502.50 to 503.50 crore. This milestone comes even as it outperformed Hollywood giant Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opened to a modest Rs 19.95 crore in India.

The achievement is all the more stunning because Dhurandhar beat the previous record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which took 18 days to cross 500 crore. Among Hindi films, only the Telugu blockbuster Pushpa 2 reached the mark quicker, in 11 days. Trade experts now eye Baahubali 2‘s Hindi tally of Rs 511 crore as the next target, with the film set to surpass it by the end of its third weekend. Starring Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan, Dhurandhar has turned doubters into fans with its gripping espionage plot and high octane action.

A-Rated Blockbuster Defies All Odds

What makes Dhurandhar‘s run truly remarkable is its A rated status and Hindi only release in a time when pan Indian films rule the roost. Yet, the film has smashed over 25 box office records since hitting screens on 5 December. It logged the highest third Friday collection ever for a Bollywood film, eclipsing movies that usually draw families and wider crowds.

Even in its brief two week stint on IMAX screens, before Avatar: Fire and Ash grabbed those slots, Dhurandhar grossed Rs 16.50 crore from the premium format alone. This topped Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 to claim the crown as the highest grossing Indian film on IMAX in India. On day 15, it held strong with 35.95 per cent overall Hindi occupancy, and night shows soared to 50.28 per cent. Such numbers show how the film’s intense action and stellar performances have hooked adult audiences, proving A rated content can dominate without compromises.

Record Shattering Pace Continues

Trade pundits forecast Dhurandhar could gross over Rs 600 crore in India, with worldwide collections already past Rs 700 crore. Overseas markets chipped in Rs 158 crore, fuelling the fire. The second week alone brought Rs 261.50 crore, the best ever for a Bollywood film, leaving behind heavyweights like Pushpa 2, Chhaava, and Stree 2.

Fans are buzzing about the sequel, slated for Eid 2026, which promises even bigger thrills. Ranveer Singh’s powerhouse turn as the daring spy has critics and viewers raving, while the ensemble cast delivers edge of the seat drama. In a clash of titans, Dhurandhar has not just survived the Avatar wave but crushed it, cementing its place as 2025’s undisputed box office king.
