Three men allegedly used a suspicious government identity card to force their way past security and enter Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), with one of them carrying a firearm. The incident took place on Monday, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Mumbai. Two people have been arrested in connection with the case, while the Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting further investigation.

Rohan Parekh Among Two Arrested

One of the accused has been identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, who allegedly claimed to be an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and was found carrying a suspicious PMO identity card.

According to police, the three men allegedly used the government identity card to gain entry into Jio World Plaza and forced their way past security. One of the men was carrying a firearm. The BKC Police registered an FIR under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections relating to impersonation of a public servant and unlawful entry while armed with a weapon.

Two persons have been arrested in the case. The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation and is examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation, the identity card and the attempted entry.

What Happened At Jio World Plaza?

According to the police version, the incident occurred at Jio World Plaza in BKC, where the three men allegedly attempted to enter after producing a suspicious government identity card. The men allegedly forced their way past mall security, with one of them carrying a firearm. The incident prompted police intervention and subsequent questioning of the individuals.

The police are investigating why the men attempted to enter the premises, what credentials they were using and whether they had any legitimate connection to the government or the PMO. The identity card allegedly used by Parekh is also being examined as part of the probe.

Gun Found To Be Licensed

The firearm involved in the incident has been found to be licensed, according to Mumbai Police. The weapon was allegedly being carried by one of the men who accompanied Parekh. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case, while the Crime Branch is continuing to establish the exact role played by each individual.

The fact that the firearm was licensed does not resolve the other allegations in the case, including the alleged use of a suspicious government identity card and unlawful entry.

What Parekh’s Lawyer Told Court

A significant development emerged during Parekh’s court hearing on Tuesday. His lawyer told the Mumbai court that Parekh may himself have been duped into believing that he had genuinely been offered a role connected to the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to the defence’s submissions, Parekh had allegedly received an official-looking offer letter and an identity card. His lawyer further claimed that he had received a letter purportedly signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as an email allegedly sent by an Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister. The defence argued that these documents and communications may have convinced Parekh that the PMO-linked offer was genuine and that he could have been conned by another person.

These claims were made by the defence in court and have not been established as facts. The authenticity and origin of the documents and communications are part of the investigation. A Mumbai court has remanded Parekh to police custody until September 11.

Police Probe Documents, Motive

The Crime Branch is now investigating the alleged PMO connection claimed by Parekh, including the identity card and other documents cited by his lawyer. Investigators are expected to verify whether the alleged offer letter, identity card, letter purportedly bearing PM Modi’s signature and email from an Additional Secretary were genuine or fabricated.

The police are also probing whether Parekh was acting on his own or whether other people were involved in allegedly creating or supplying the documents. The role of the other accused, including the person who was allegedly accompanying Parekh and carrying the firearm, is also being examined.

Incident Has No Link To PM Modi’s Mumbai Visit

Mumbai Police have categorically clarified that the incident has no connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai today. The incident took place on Monday, while PM Modi is scheduled to attend the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in BKC on Tuesday.

Although the incident occurred in the same broader BKC area and a day before the Prime Minister’s visit, police have said that the two developments are not connected.

Why The Case Drew Attention

The case drew attention because of the alleged use of a government identity card, the claim of being associated with the PMO and the presence of a firearm during the attempted entry into a high-profile location in BKC.

Early reports about the incident also described the men as being detained in connection with security arrangements around the Prime Minister’s scheduled programme. However, the police have since clarified that the incident itself was a separate matter and was not linked to the Prime Minister’s visit.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is continuing its investigation to establish the complete sequence of events, verify the documents allegedly used by Parekh and determine the motive and role of all those involved.
