A series of road accidents were reported across Haryana and parts of the Delhi-NCR region over the weekend as dense fog continued to disrupt visibility, leading to multiple vehicle collisions on major highways.
One of the most serious incidents took place on National Highway 352D in Haryana’s Rewari district, where three to four buses rammed into each other during the early morning hours. The buses were travelling towards Jhajjar when the thick fog drastically reduced visibility, resulting in the pile-up. Several passengers sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals. Officials said the exact number of injured persons is still being assessed.
Heavy Fog Blamed
Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that poor visibility caused by heavy fog was the main factor behind the accident, though authorities said a detailed enquiry is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
A similar fog-related accident was reported on National Highway 91 in Greater Noida, where around half a dozen vehicles were involved in a collision on Sunday morning. While several vehicles were damaged and a few people suffered minor injuries, police confirmed that no fatalities were reported. The accident caused a temporary traffic slowdown, which was cleared after cranes were used to remove damaged vehicles.
In another incident earlier in the day, a large pile-up occurred on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, involving nearly a dozen vehicles at the Samadhipur flyover, with additional collisions reported near the Chakrasenpur flyover. Several people were injured and taken for medical treatment.
Multi-Vehicle Crash in Hisar
Meanwhile, Hisar district also witnessed a major pile-up on National Highway 52 near Dhiktana Moda, where a roadways bus collided with a dumper truck. A second bus, followed by a car and a motorcycle, subsequently crashed into the vehicles ahead. Despite the severity of the incident, most people escaped without injuries, except for the motorcycle rider who was hospitalised.
With foggy conditions persisting, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Traffic Police has imposed temporary speed restrictions on key roads and expressways to prevent further accidents. The revised limits will remain in force from December 15 to February 15, 2026. On the Yamuna Expressway, light vehicles are allowed a maximum speed of 75 kmph, while heavy vehicles are capped at 60 kmph. The Noida–Greater Noida Expressway has similar restrictions, with heavy vehicles limited to 50 kmph. On the Noida Elevated Road, speed limits have been reduced further.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for Haryana, warning commuters of hazardous driving conditions. Authorities have advised motorists to use low-beam headlights, maintain safe distances, and avoid high speeds while travelling through fog-affected areas.
