Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. His appointment comes in a period marked by allegations concerning financial mismanagement and donation theft within the Trust. This turmoil has reportedly led to the resignation of three officials, including the former general secretary, Champat Rai, and the arrest of eight individuals connected to the allegations.

Mishra’s extensive military background positions him uniquely to lead the Trust. During his notable 39-year career with the Indian Air Force (IAF), he has been recognised for his management abilities and discipline, qualities that are expected to influence his work with the Trust.

Background and Military Career

Hailing from Bhopatpura village in Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh, Mishra was commissioned as a fighter pilot on December 6, 1986. Over the course of his military career, he accrued more than 3,000 hours of flying time on various aircraft, including more than 18 types of fighters, transport planes, and helicopters. He was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command, a role in which he played a pivotal part during Operation Sindoor.

His service record includes high-stakes responsibilities such as leading operations during the Kargil War, where he was integral in the operationalisation of laser-guided bombs on the Mirage-2000 aircraft. He also held prestigious positions within the Integrated Defence Staff, reflecting his proficiency in operational strategy. His extraordinary service has earned him several distinguished awards, including the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), and the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal (SYSM) in 2025 for his contributions during Operation Sindoor.

Mishra’s leadership experience in multinational training exercises, such as the Garuda-IV air exercise in France, demonstrates his capability in managing complex operational frameworks, skills that are expected to translate well in his new role.

Future Responsibilities at the Ram Temple Trust

As the new CEO, Jeetendra Mishra will be responsible for overseeing the administration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. His goals will likely include enhancing the efficiency of operations, streamlining administrative processes, and ensuring a positive experience for visitors and devotees. The Trust’s leadership anticipates that his military discipline and organisational skills will contribute significantly to achieving these aims.

With his extensive experience in high-pressure environments and his proven track record of successful management, Mishra is expected to restore confidence in the Trust’s governance. His military background is viewed as an asset not only for administration but also for fostering transparency and accountability in financial dealings.

Mishra officially retired from the Indian Air Force in April 2026, and his transition from military service to managing a significant religious trust signals a unique juncture in his career, one that blends discipline with community service in a prominent role.
