Delhi Police Clear Arvind Kejriwal’s Rally at Jantar Mantar After Initial Denial

The CSR Journal Magazine

On February 28, Saurabh Bharadwaj, the President of the Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi Unit, announced that party leader Arvind Kejriwal will hold a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on March 1. This announcement follows a court ruling that discharged Kejriwal and former Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia from the Delhi excise police case. The rally is set to commence at 11 AM.

Initial Denial of Permission

Bharadwaj noted that the Delhi Police initially denied permission for the rally. However, after discussions with senior police officials, an agreement was reached, allowing the event to proceed as planned. Earlier in the day, Bharadwaj criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the initial denial of permission, suggesting that the police’s actions reflected the party’s influence.

Statements from AAP Leaders

In a statement made on X, Bharadwaj expressed concern over the timing of the police’s decision, indicating that a written notice had been submitted long in advance. He claimed, “All our preparations were done; the pamphlets had been distributed—how can the BJP’s sycophantic police cancel the permission just one day before?” His remarks emphasized his belief that the ruling party’s actions were an attempt to suppress dissent.

Recent Court Ruling

On February 24, the Rouse Avenue court discharged not only Kejriwal and Sisodia but also 21 other accused individuals. In its judgment, the court pointed out significant flaws in the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that the agency’s case could not endure judicial scrutiny and was ultimately discredited. This verdict was met with celebrations from AAP leaders who regarded it as a vindication.

CBI’s Response to the Court’s Order

In the aftermath of the court’s decision, the CBI has moved towards the Delhi High Court in an effort to challenge the trial court’s ruling. The agency is seeking to contest the discharge of the accused individuals, including Kejriwal and Sisodia. The developments surrounding the rally and the legal proceedings illustrate ongoing tensions between the AAP and the central government, further intensifying the political atmosphere in the national capital.
