The Delhi International Airport Limited (DAIL) is planning to undertake upgradation work at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).  The construction work that starts in April will shut down the older terminal two from operation for 4 to 5 months in the country‘s largest international airport. However, the good news is that this shutdown will not cause any disruption as the airport has sufficient passenger handling capacity at other terminals.
Currently, IGI airport has three operational terminals for scheduled commercial flights. The largest terminal is T3, which caters to international as well as domestic flights, while Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 handle only domestic flights. Since terminal two is the oldest amongst the three, DIAL is planning to shape Lift this part of IGI airport with a new apron, flooring, washroom, arrow, bridges, and other passenger amenities.

Low Visibility in Delhi

As far as runways are concerned, the IGI has a total of four of them out of which two can operate in low visibility conditions from both the ends.
After the upgrade is completed, the airport will have three runways capable of this low visibility operation and will be equipped for better management of takeoff. Fog during winters makes it difficult for flights flying in and out of the capital city, Delhi, situated in North India. This leads to major disruption at the country’s largest airport, which can be saved after the proposed infrastructural facelift.
