The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Teri Hatcher is set to take on the prestigious role of Miranda Priestly in the West End musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada. The former star of Desperate Housewives will assume the role previously played by Vanessa Williams, starting on October 20, 2026.

At 61, Hatcher will relocate from Los Angeles to London to fully immerse herself in this iconic role. The announcement marks a significant moment in her career, as she prepares to step into the shoes of the renowned fashion figure, originally portrayed on screen by Meryl Streep.

Personal Insights and Family Support

During a recent photoshoot in Paris for HELLO!, Hatcher expressed her enthusiasm about this new opportunity. She shared her excitement regarding the unique experiences she aims to incorporate into her performance. Hatcher stated, “I’ve experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my Devil Wears Prada performance.”

The actor also revealed that her daughter, Emerson, 28, has already witnessed Williams’ portrayal at the Dominion Theatre and was instrumental in urging her mother to take up the role. Hatcher recalled Emerson’s enthusiastic response, “Oh my god, you have to do it, you’re going to have so much fun.”

As a self-admitted admirer of both the original film released in 2006 and its sequel, Hatcher has already begun preparations for her debut on the West End. This includes discussions with both Vanessa Williams and Matt Henry, who portrays Miranda’s colleague Nigel, to ensure a successful transition into the role.

A Rich Background in Theatre

Although Teri Hatcher is widely recognised for her performances in Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, her experience in musical theatre is notable. She has previously taken on challenging roles, such as that of Sally Bowles in the national tour of Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret and Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.

The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and the 2006 film, follows the journey of journalist Andy Sachs as she navigates the competitive environment of Runway magazine under the formidable leadership of Miranda Priestly. The musical features music by Elton John and is co-produced by Kevin McCollum, David Furnish, and Jamie Wilson.

Initially premiered at Theatre Royal Plymouth in the summer of 2024, the production made its way to London’s West End, officially opening at the Dominion Theatre in December of the same year. To date, the musical has achieved notable success, selling over 1.2 million tickets and is poised to celebrate its 800th performance on September 23, 2026.

Production Details and Future Performances

As it stands, The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical is scheduled to run at the Dominion Theatre through September 25, 2027, allowing audiences ample opportunity to experience this highly anticipated production. With Hatcher stepping into the role, excitement is building for her interpretation of the fashion mogul.

Fans of musical theatre and of Hatcher eagerly await her portrayal, which promises to bring a fresh perspective to a beloved character. As preparations continue, the anticipation surrounding her West End debut remains high.
