Held on September 3, the talks were co-chaired by Rear Admiral Sachin R Sequeira from the Indian Navy and Rear Admiral Chaksawat Saiwong from the Royal Thai Navy. The focus was on promoting naval capacity building and expanding professional training and operational collaboration between the two nations.

The Indian Navy’s communications indicated that these discussions were pivotal in reinforcing the foundations of their bilateral relationship. Specific emphasis was placed on identifying strategic areas for further collaboration to bolster maritime security in the region.

These Staff Talks are part of a broader strategy to strengthen defence ties, which have seen significant developments over recent months. The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to establishing more robust mechanisms for cooperation in defence matters.

Maritime Cooperation Initiatives

In July, Indian Naval Ships, including INS Udaygiri, INS Shakti, and INS Kavaratti from the Eastern Fleet, engaged in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) alongside HTMS Chao Phraya, a Royal Thai Navy vessel. This joint exercise occurred following a port call at Sattahip, Thailand, aimed at enhancing tactical interoperability between the two navies.

The Indian Navy spokesperson commented on the significance of this exercise, noting that it served as an opportunity to strengthen interoperability and reaffirm mutual commitments to maritime security.
