CSR Initiatives Doubles Cancer Diagnostic Capacity at Tata Memorial Hospital

In a significant stride towards enhancing cancer care, Kotak Mahindra Bank, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has substantially upgraded the diagnostic capabilities at Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel, Mumbai. The bank has funded the procurement and installation of a state-of-art PET-CT scanner which will double the hospital’s daily scan capacity from the currently over 20 patients to over 40 patients.

This advanced hybrid imaging technology is pivotal in early cancer detection, therapy assessment, and recurrence monitoring, ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses. With nearly 60% of the 80-100 daily PET CT scans offered at highly subsidized rates (among the lowest within India and some completely free of charge). Kotak’s support will significantly reduce patient wait times and improve access to advanced cancer diagnostics.

Himanshu Nivsarkar, Head of CSR & ESG, Kotak Mahindra Bank said, “This initiative reflects Kotak’s ongoing commitment to strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem, particularly in critical areas like cancer care. By supporting the installation of a new PET-CT scanner at Tata Memorial Hospital, we hope to facilitate timely and accurate diagnoses for more patients, which is often a crucial first step in their treatment journey.”

Dr. CS Pramesh, Director, Tata Memorial Hospital said “On behalf of all our patients at Tata Memorial Hospital, we are very grateful to Kotak Mahindra Bank – their timely support in helping us replace our old PET-CT scanner which had reached its end of life, couldn’t have come at a better time. The new PET-CT scanner is more efficient, can do more scans in a day, and help us serve our patients better, and for this, we are indebted to Kotak and their CSR team. It is support like this which helps us offer the highest quality of care to our patients with the majority being treated at highly subsidized cost and often, completely free.”

The CSR project also includes comprehensive upgrades to the PET-CT room’s infrastructure such as new fixtures, flooring, control consoles, LED glass panels, and enhanced seating capacity, all in compliance with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) norms. These enhancements will enable Tata Memorial Hospital to accommodate more patients and optimize operational efficiency. Furthermore, continuing towards its commitment to provide accessible and equitable healthcare in India, Kotak Mahindra Bank has extended its support to the Tata Memorial Hospital centres in Varanasi, named Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Centre (MPMMCC hospital), under its CSR initiative.
