The CSR Journal Magazine

Cipla Limited has reported an investment of Rs 103.75 crore in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the financial year 2025-26. This commitment is vital as it underscores the company’s focus on addressing social challenges related to healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability. The company’s activities reached more than 2.55 lakh beneficiaries nationwide, highlighting the significant impact of these efforts across various communities.

These initiatives, executed through the Cipla Foundation and collaboration with partner organisations, encompassed various programme areas. Key focuses included healthcare access, educational support, skills enhancement, and environmental conservation. The annual report stresses that these undertakings are predominantly driven by the company’s long-standing principle of “Caring for Life,” which reflects its commitment to social development.

Furthermore, the report indicates that Cipla’s total CSR obligation for the financial year was estimated at Rs 94.73 crore under the Companies Act, 2013. While a considerable portion of this obligation was utilized, Rs 12.04 crore was not spent and was allocated to the Unspent Corporate Social Responsibility Account, designated for ongoing projects in subsequent years.

Healthcare Initiatives and Health Focus

During FY2025-26, healthcare represented a pivotal element of Cipla’s CSR strategy. The report details a robust focus on palliative care, which seeks to provide support to patients with life-limiting illnesses. The Cipla Foundation partnered with various organisations to reach over 65,900 individuals in this category, delivering essential medical care, counselling, and home support services, thus significantly enhancing quality of life.

The annual report also revealed that the Cipla Palliative Care and Training Centre in Pune recorded more than 1,000 unique admissions and conducted over 13,500 home visits during the financial year. Such efforts address a critical gap in the healthcare spectrum of India, where palliative care remains under-resourced.

In addition to palliative care, Cipla expanded its focus on paediatric healthcare. More than 5,000 children received assistance through collaborations with healthcare facilities like the BJ Wadia Hospital in Mumbai and CanKids in Delhi. This effort denotes the company’s aim to improve health outcomes for the younger population.

Education and Skill Development Programmes

Education emerged as another integral focus in Cipla’s CSR activities. The report highlights the implementation of Mobile Science Labs in association with the Agastya International Foundation, aimed at fostering experiential learning in government schools. This initiative is particularly beneficial in regions lacking laboratory facilities, thereby enriching the educational experience for students.

Cipla also maintained a scholarship programme benefiting 266 students through the Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative. Furthermore, 22 schools received digital learning infrastructures, aiding more than 3,000 students in accessing modern educational resources. These initiatives reflect a dedicated effort to bolster educational opportunities for underserved communities.

Skill development remains a priority with the establishment of the Pharmaceutical Academy for Global Excellence (PAGE) in Ahmedabad. This initiative focuses on equipping students with industry-relevant skills, bridging the gap between academic education and the requirements of the pharmaceutical sector.

Environmental Sustainability and Community Engagement

Cipla’s commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated through various initiatives. One significant project, titled Sanjivani, was launched at the Ujjani Dam wetland in Maharashtra. It aims to restore ecological balance and improve biodiversity through nature-driven approaches. The company also established a Miyawaki mini forest, planting approximately 1,000 saplings across a specified area to encourage biodiversity.

Moreover, the report mentions that Cipla implemented 272 rainwater harvesting structures to enhance water conservation efforts. The company achieved a water-positive status of 2.6 times, indicating a commitment to sustainable water management practices within its operational framework.

Employee engagement proved to be a key facet of Cipla’s CSR initiatives, with over 1,10,379 volunteering hours logged during the financial year. These efforts encompass a wide range of community support activities, underscoring the company’s dedication to social betterment.
