Britain Set to Send Migrants Back to France Under New Deal

The CSR Journal Magazine

Under the new deal, Britain noted that it will begin sending some migrants who arrived on small boats back to France within a few days. This action will form a key part in cutting illegal migration in the country after a treaty or agreement is ratified on Tuesday.

Under this new deal, France agreed to accept the return of undocumented people who arrived in Britain by small boats in exchange for Britain agreeing to accept an equal number of legitimate asylum seekers with British family connections.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron announced the “one in, one out” pilot scheme on migrant returns last month. This scheme is part of several other actions that are being taken to eject illegal migrants within the United Kingdom. Within this year, more than 25,000 people have come to Britain on small boats, and Starmer has pledged to smash the gangs of smugglers involved by trying to reduce the number of arrivals.

The current UK Prime Minister’s popularity has fallen since winning an election landslide last year. Starmer now faces pressure to stop small boats from coming to the UK from Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, which also leads the national opinion polls.

Other Plans

The British government has outlined a new plan to end its ‘failed free market experiment’ in mass migration, by restricting skilled worker visas to graduate-level jobs and forcing businesses to increase training for local workers. The new plans were announced on Sunday by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, because of the pressure on his party to cut net migration after the success of Nigel Farage’s right-wing Reform UK party in local elections.

According to the government’s new plan, the skilled visa will only be granted to people in graduate jobs. Visas for low-skilled roles will only be issued in areas critical to the nation’s industrial strategy.  Companies within the care sector will no longer be able to see a visa for workers recruited abroad. In turn, British businesses will have to increase the training of British workers and companies, according to the government‘s plan.
