The CSR Journal Magazine

Two individuals lost their lives and five others were injured after a passenger minibus was involved in an accident on the Reasi-Bakal road in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on September 14, 2026, near the Batalgala Tunnel, located within the Reasi district. Local authorities responded promptly to the scene to assist the victims.

Medical Response and Casualty Confirmation

Following the accident, the injured passengers were transported to the District Hospital in Reasi for medical treatment. Hospital officials reported that two of the injured sustained critical wounds and were subsequently referred to a higher medical facility for specialised care after receiving initial treatment. The remaining three passengers received care for minor injuries and are currently being treated at the local hospital.

Dr Karamvir Singh, the Medical Superintendent at District Hospital Reasi, confirmed the details regarding the casualties. He stated, “A total of seven people were brought here. Two were brought dead, two were referred, and the rest of them, with minor injuries, are being treated here itself.” His comments provide clarity about the severity of the incident and the immediate response by medical staff.

The police initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Eyewitness accounts will be sought to assess the circumstances leading to this tragic event. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are expected to release further information as it becomes available.

Previous Incidents in the Region

This accident follows another incident that occurred on August 18, where a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker vehicle overturned after colliding with a truck in the region. Reports indicated that several CRPF personnel aboard the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were taken to the 163 Battalion CRPF camp in Qazigund for treatment. These events raise concerns regarding road safety in the area.

Authorities have reiterated the need for caution while driving in these regions, particularly on roads that may pose challenges due to topography or traffic conditions. They are expected to review safety measures and enforcement to prevent future occurrences. Despite the rugged terrain, the transport system remains crucial for both civilian and military operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

As investigations continue into the recent minibus accident, local officials are urging drivers and passengers to prioritise safety and follow road regulations diligently. Community awareness initiatives may also be implemented to enhance safe driving practices among residents. The focus remains on ensuring the well-being of travellers on these vital routes.
