BJP’s Dilip Ghosh Confident About Winning Over 100 Seats in West Bengal Assembly Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dilip Ghosh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kharagpur Sadar, has expressed strong confidence regarding the party’s prospects in the ongoing first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. He foresees an impressive performance, predicting that the BJP will secure over 100 seats across both North and South Bengal.

During an interview with ANI, Ghosh articulated his beliefs, stating, “The BJP’s major influence area is in North and South Bengal, and I think the BJP will win more than 100 seats there. The path to victory will be clear from here.” His remarks underscore the party’s determination to build on its previous showing in the state.

Ghosh also directed criticism towards the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), suggesting that the TMC is dismissing local leadership in favour of outsiders for election candidates. He questioned the origins of figures like Yusuf Pathan and Shatrughan Sinha, drawing attention to the notion that locals are not adequately represented.

Allegations Against the TMC Leadership

Continuing his critique, Ghosh highlighted what he perceives as inconsistencies in TMC’s leadership, particularly targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He remarked, “Mamata Banerjee is going to lose the election, that is why she is talking about fish and rice, but she fails to recognise that fish production has declined in Bengal under the TMC government.” His comments reflect the BJP’s strategy of addressing agricultural and local economic issues in their campaigning.

Concerns over the electoral environment were also raised by Ghosh, who pointed out potential challenges faced by the Election Commission in ensuring a fair voting process. He urged the electorate to exercise their voting rights freely, expressing hope that the public will be able to cast their votes without fear during this critical electoral period.

On the national political stage, Ghosh commented on the Congress party’s leadership struggles, suggesting that the party’s internal issues could benefit the BJP. He stated, “Congress is unable to find a hardworking president,” implying that the party’s difficulties could play to the BJP’s advantage.

Election Landscape and Statistics

The upcoming elections in West Bengal feature a competitive landscape, with the incumbent TMC aiming for a fourth consecutive term. The BJP, having made significant gains in the last elections by winning 77 seats, is now striving for an opportunity to form the government.

The state is contesting a total of 294 Assembly seats, with the first phase encompassing 152 constituencies and a subsequent phase covering 142. In this initial phase, 1,478 candidates are competing for electoral positions. The counting of votes has been scheduled for May 4, marking an essential date in the electoral calendar.

The rivalry between the TMC and BJP underscores the high stakes involved, as both parties aim to galvanise their respective bases and address regional concerns throughout the campaign. As the elections unfold, the dynamics will continue to develop, providing insights into the political future of West Bengal.
