Bihar: 13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Accident, Locals Loot Fish as Body Lies on Road Unattended

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic incident unfolded near Jhajhihat village in Sitamarhi district when a seventh-grade student, Ritesh Kumar, also known as Golu, was killed in a road accident. The young boy, son of Santosh Das, was on his way to morning coaching classes when he was struck by a speeding pickup truck. The impact was so severe that Ritesh died instantly at the spot, leaving his family inconsolable.

Eyewitnesses report chaotic scenes

Eyewitnesses say the scene was chaotic, with the boy’s cries and the sound of the crash attracting a crowd. While the family arrived at the site in shock and grief, a disturbing spectacle unfolded on the other side of the road. The pickup truck, which was carrying a load of fish, had spilled its cargo during the collision.

Rather than offering assistance or calling for emergency help, several bystanders reportedly began looting the fish. People were seen filling sacks and grabbing handfuls of fish, completely ignoring the tragedy that had just occurred.

Incident sparks outrage

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with many expressing disbelief at the insensitivity displayed by those present. Social media users and local residents condemned the crowd for prioritizing the fish over helping a dying child.

Authorities from the Pupri police station rushed to the scene after receiving alerts about the accident. The police took Ritesh’s body in custody and sent it for post-mortem examination. The pickup truck involved in the accident has also been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Officers have urged witnesses and locals who saw the incident to come forward with information to aid the probe.

Serious concerns raised

This tragic accident has highlighted not only the risks faced by children commuting to school or coaching classes in rural areas but also raised serious concerns about public morality and behavior in emergency situations. The police have assured strict action against the driver if found at fault and are investigating both the accident and the crowd’s behavior.
